I saw this article today about research into robotic traffic cones (http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994932), that move themselves into place instead of having to be dropped by hand. What a great idea! I wish these things had been available a few months ago - they could have saved the life of Mariano Salangdron, who was killed on the job while deploying cones on the H-1 (http://starbulletin.com/2004/02/14/news/story1.html). :(
DOT says that the contraflow lanes are a big help, but since I don't drive the freeways in the morning I don't know personally. What about you folks who make the morning drive into town, does the extra lane seem to make a difference?
