I have been using Firefox and Thunderbird as my primary browser and e-mail clients. I have been very happy with them thus far. If you have tried either I would recommend giving it a shot.

You'll find that there are many Firefox users here, and the browser has come up a few times before (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/search.php?searchid=11122). Especially with the last few months of MSIE exploits, anything other than Microsoft has become an attractive option. Even "mainstream" tech magazines and columns (that is, stuff written for everyday folks and not just geeks) have had things like "How to remove Internet Explorer from Windows" features!
Thunderbird I'm less familiar with, though if it's a counterpart to Firefox (rather than one of those all-in-one communication apps), it must be nice. The last non-MS client I regularly used was Eudora.

Thunderbird is a standalone e-mail client http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

Another firefox user here.
I've been using it since IE had a lot of holes, and since I got SP2, its hard to switch back to IE (if I want to).

Aaron, have you tried any of these specific tweaks and hacks you're posting? I'd love some first-person commentary in addition to the URLs...

Well the tweaks to the prefs.js file do work. Atleast the ones I got off of www.dslreports.com. I haven't looked the tweaks that are on the link I posted.
But I'm sure they would help. The rest of the links I posted is additional sites where you can get extensions.

i use firefox - it is better than IE, but not because of speed... it is more stable and there are far less exploits.

I'm curious what Firefox extensions other Firefox users
use ? The use of extensions to the browser is one of the
reasons I love Firefox :)
