I want to see what you guys think is the stronger fighter in the ring if our top two mayorial candidates go head to head.

I'd say Mufi'd win, because he's samoan, and he'd kick Duke's behind. (don't turn this into a flame war, its just for fun and games; I'm not connected to neither of them in anyway, shape or form).

Mufi for sure. He's two years younger than Duke, and was an athlete in school to boot. By the way, Duke's last name is spelled "Bainum".

Oh man this is so unfair. Mufi would kill Bainum. No question!

Thanks, but I can't edit polls. (mods?)

Mufi has the size and reach and as far as what we can see he looks more athletic. However, Bainum has that broom. The question is, can he use it effectively?

Broom! Watch out for that pointed nose! I like Mufi because he stopped to shake my hand one hot and humid Saturday morning in Manoa. I produced Bainum's show on KHVH one weekend (PREL) and he didn't even say hi to me the whole hour I sat in front of him.

Little things like that make lasting impressions Mr. Bainum.

looks like mufi is going to win hahah! That would be a sad sight, Mufi is like 7 foot tall and shoot fireballs out his eyes! and lightnight bolts out his arse! :D

he would snap him like a twig!

I think Mufi would win in a fist fight, too. Not unless, yes, Bainum could wield his broom. :)

That doesn't mean I want the guy running the city, though. The Rock could probably kick the ass of every surgeon at Mt. Sinai, but that don't qualify him to remove brain tumors.

pole drive isn't a certified tecnique in removing brain tumors? hahahha

With his temper, definitely Mufi.

so if everybody says Mufi then why do the polls favor Bainum? Because of the way it was written! That's why you cannot believe in polls!

I didn't even notice until you posted that the poll question here is "who would lose" even though the thread is titled "who would win" - so I have no idea which way I voted anymore. :D

I share the same experience of coming across Bainum and he is very standoffish. He has an air which isn't very likable.

Well, gang,
I guess it's unanimous, There's no question,
No doubt about it,.....It's....

Mufi Hanneman!. Then let's all go out & vote for him, already!.

We all like him, what's the big deal, already?.

We all like him, what's the big deal, already?Um. The fact that we don't all like him? A boxing match is one thing, running the city is another.

Both my wife and I cast our ballots via mail this week. All I'll say is, neither Hanneman or Bainum got our votes for mayor this year.

What I like know is how Frank Fasi, da perpetual candidate for Honolulu mayor, still get enough support dat he can make one more run foa office at his advanced age (he someting like 80 years old, yeah?)

P.S. If was one boxing match, I tink Mufi would wipe Bainum's okole all ova da canvas. But I tink both dem buggahs get big kine egos and pilau kine mouths so maybe neither going do much for Honolulu if either one gets elected. Maybe would be one other "Dobelle" kine administration.

For better or worse, it doesn't take much support to officially run for mayor. Wasn't Fasi's latest report to the campaign spending commission something like $50 collected, $50 spent? :)

The man's running for the hell of it... yet it's notable that he still gets enough votes to be "viable" enough to include in a televised debate (whereas the handful of others, including Lillian Hong and Terrence Teruya, who we have on this site) are shut out.

I watched the debate, and even as a former Bainum supporter can see that Hanneman came out on top. But like you, I have little hope for any real progress under either of those guys. Fasi, such as he is, would at least keep things interesting... what you see is what you get!

On the Big Island, the mayoral race is far more low-key, with Dominic Yagong the only major challenger to Harry Kim.

Harry Kim is still around? Jeez...I saw him interviewed for one of those true crime episodes on TV awhile back. Wasn't he the one who was elected with no prior experience because of the corruption in government that blew up when one of the Hilo police officers was indicted for murdering his wife?

Even though he hasn't held office in years, Fasi's supporters are extremely loyal. I mean, extremely loyal. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled 25% of the vote.

Fasi would kick their butts.

(And I won't complain if he does it in the election, too.)

The problem with Fasi is that most of us who remember him as a "doer" either are in that "25%" or have left the state or county because the current administration left us no choice.

Fasi was such a strong political figure and well-respected and got a lot done for Honolulu. He was also a crook. Eileen Anderson however was honest and fair but never got much accomplished.

Okay so if it takes a crook to run a crooked government, then put the best man or woman in there to do the job.

I honestly believe Mayor Harris' desire to narrow Kuhio Avenue is his legacy to undermine Mayor Fasi's attempt to successfully widen Kuhio Avenue when Mayor Eileen Anderson tried to make it happen and failed miserably.

Fasi got it done for those who were too young to remember when he was our beloved mayor of Honolulu.
