The Honolulu Advertiser ran a wire story (http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Oct/12/bz/bz06p.html) on the Massachusetts company Akamai (http://www.akamai.com) this morning. An interesting overview of what they do, and one tiny new tidbit as to how the company got its name:Akamai, which Leighton co-founded in 1998 with Daniel Lewin, then a graduate student at MIT, takes its name from the Hawaiian word for "smart" or "clever." The company does not have any roots in Hawai'i; according to a company spokeswoman, the name resulted from use of a search engine to find words that meant "smart" or "clever."

I was wondering about that.

I thought that company started locally, then expanded to global status.
