Our football team sucked big time but don't ever tread on our Math team!!! Rulers of the Scientific Calculator!!! :D You got that right--but we did have cute cheerleaders at Kalani. I didn't know what it was like for my school to win a football game until I went to college.

May 18th, 2005, 10:11 AM
I was a nerd in high school I'll admit that but being on the P.A. crew allowed me to ride on the same bus as the cheerleaders to our football massacres.
And yes we did have some pretty cute cheerleaders.
Nowdays it seems to be in style to be a nerd or geek and the clothes! It's amazing what was considered nerdy is now considered to be trendy! Man was I born in the wrong decade.
Lets see I rode skateboards when skateboards weren't considered cool. I wore sneakers when sneakers weren't considered cool. I wore dress shirts and jeans with my sneakers when neither was considered cool. And I even had short hair when that wasn't considered cool either.
My generation rode on rock skateboard wheel and became the first generation to experience polyurothane wheels. Ours was the generation that experienced the death of JFK and witnessed the birth of MTV!
And now I got teenage kids telling me I don't know what I'm talking about. I've been around the world twice and they've just gone around the block once. Just do it? The motto of the baby boomer is: Been there...Done that! :D And they have the nerve to tell me to turn down my music! First my parents now my own kids!

Yes, but I'd rather not say. Until I moved here, if someone asked me where I was from, I'd tell 'em, then automatically add the disclaimer, "But I'm not (fill in the adjective)."
Silly! So I guess that high school stuff is important elsewhere besides Hawaii, although it seems to be a bigger deal here. More rivalries that continue into adulthood here, I think. I dunno, just thinking out loud here.

Now, was that when KHS was IN Kailua (now Kailua Intermediate) or when it is where it is now - in Pohakapu?

To Geckogeek...
This was back in 1958-59...Kailua HS was on Kainalu Drive, next to the Park. I don't remember the principal, but I remember Coach DeMello. Campos Dairy was close by on Kailua road. When the wind shifted "mauka to makai" the bovine fragrance was awsome. Access to Kailua/Kaneohe was by the OLD, winding Pali road. Driving that damn road in the rain was an adventure. Oh yea...back in the day, the windward side was considered "country."

A little before my time, but you may know my brother and/or sister. I know of someone from that time who was kicked out for poor grades. Today about the only way to kick a kid out is send them to juvie.
