Jasmine, Camile and Jordan have created an undeniable hype in Hawaii for American Idol, and this year the ratings are likely just as high in the 808 as it is nationwide for this hit "reality" series.

This year they changed the rules a bit, upping the entry age limit to 28, and formatting the elimination rounds into a male-female split to improve gender balance.

As of this writing, here are the contestants:

FEMALE
Amanda Avila (23, Nevada)
Carrie Underwood (21, Oklahoma)
Janay Castine (17, Georgia)
Jessica Sierra (19, Florida)
Lindsay Cardinale (20, Louisiana)
Mikalah Gordon (17, Nevada)
Nadia Turner (28, Florida)
Vonzell Soloman (20, Florida)

MALE
Anthony Federov (19, Pennsylvania)
Anwar Robinson (25, New Jersey)
Bo Bice (29, Alabama)
Constantine Maroulis (29, New York)
Mario Vazquez (27, New York)
Nikko Smith (22, Missouri)
Scott Savol (28, Ohio)
Travis Tucker (21, Virginia)

My top pick for the ladies are Amanda, Nadia and Vonzell. For the men I'd say Anwar, Nikko and Mario.

For background drama, I'd give it Scott Savol, who claims his dad criticized him his whole life growing up and that he'd amount to a "nobody", and saying his son couldn't sing "worth a dime". Look at him now! That brother's got some pipes! I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it into the top 5.

Anyone watching this year? Got a favorite (or least favorite) contestant?

Carrie, Nadia, Scott, Anthony, and Mario are my favorites right now.
Mikalah is my least favorite of all the contestants.
