Hey you Windward side folks -- how's the traffic been with the road crews working on the Likelike Highway's Wilson Tunnels? The newspaper says (http://starbulletin.com/2005/07/06/news/story2.html) that it's been going smoothly; does your personal experience match?

Here's the DOT's press release (http://hawaii.gov/dot/publicaffairs/pressrelease/2005/06/05-560.htm) for a little more information.

To me, it's no worse than if school was in session. It's really not that bad. I think a lot of people are simply avoiding the Wilson tunnel altogether and choosing the alternate routes right off the bat.

I used to avoid the Wilson tunnel Kaneohe bound simply because of that stupid boneheaded engineered left-bank turn inside the tunnel as you exit it with water draining across the apex. Notice the many impact marks on the right side as you exit the tunnel?

I normally travel the tunnel every evening. The contraflow ran smoothly on July 5 toward Kaneohe.

So far I've not had too many problems taking H3 or Pali instead either.
