View Full Version : Kimo Unmasked?

ok, so we hit da big kahuna bar on Kuhio yesterday. a casual open big size place comfy, styrofoam lava design black painted walls here and there, a few "petroglyphs" on da walls, lotta woven bamboo wall surfacing too. a few surfboards, a grass shack thing..Say... My wife pointed out a letter to the editor (http://starbulletin.com/2005/08/15/editorial/letters.html) in yesterday's Star-Bulletin that looked eerily familiar (http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=4731)... the original here on the 'Threads has more personality, of course. Wonder if the printed version was edited by the author or the paper? :p

And it turns out the author of said letter also wrote a fun commentary (http://starbulletin.com/2005/07/19/editorial/commentary.html) last month. Complete with picture!

I coulda sworn Kimo55 was Hawaiian. That guy looks like a... (gasp) haole.

Or maybe he's like all those mostly-not-Hawaiian Kamehameha students. :D

i can't submit the exact same thing to two separate powerful publishing/news entities, but as compensation for pzarq putting up with the irascible kimo55, I am happy to give HT the ones with more personality.
And of course, much credit should be extended to the very capable and sharp editors of the Star Bulletin for recognizing a good thing when they see it. Or when it's emailed to them. And massaging it toward their ends.
haaa.

just all my life here, with heavy influence from my years of study and two Hawaiian stepfathers...Hmmm... so Kimo is one of those haoles with an adopted Hawaiian name. Like he's "Hawaiian at Heart" or something.

At least now there's a name and face to go with the spew that appears online.

Ouch! Ya know my first night on this forum I thought Kimo was one of those nasty little online creatures that are just mean thoughtless flammers with a love for cruelity and a great candidate for /ignore.But after many hours of hanging out I've seen many of the most thoughtfull and meaningfull posts come from Kimo and have changed that opinion.
Just my .02 Palolo

Considering all we get with Palolo Joe is the spew.Lurkah, what I write has way more substance than all the "me toos" and "yeah you tell 'ems" that you post on here.

And Fondoo, I see more "thoughtful and meaningful" posts from users like Scrinever, Pua'i Mana'o, Lavagal and even Craig. But hey, if you enjoy incessant whining and I-know-what-I'm-talking-about-so-you-just-shut-up-and-listen posts, hey - you are entitled to your two cents.

But so am I.

Um, no-o-o-o-o, I'll have to disagree with that. You do seem to spend most of your time here just taking shots at Kimo. You ever notice that little red square with your online reputation? Not too good, Joe.Hmmm... so Kimo is one of those haoles with an adopted Hawaiian name. Like he's "Hawaiian at Heart" or something.

Wow! How did I miss this thread. As others have also said, can put a face behind the name. Nice to see how you look. I expected a more stern looking man. I'm sad to see that I missed the Hawaii Collector's Show. I was one month too late to get interested again. I'll check out the place you told me later this week or when my mom is feeling better.

You ever notice that little red square with your online reputation? Yeah, I see it. And it makes me laugh. You should see the hateful comments that people leave with those red squares.

I realize it's nice to paint me as the bad guy, but I don't really care. Go to my profile and look at some of my posts. I'm confident that I do my part to contribute meaningful discussion on these boards.

But I'll call bullshit when I see it, and like everyone keeps repeating here: I'm entitled to my opinion.

And the problem with that is... ? This is actually pretty easy to understand if you've been on these boards for a while and followed what was going on. I thought you were one of those users, but I guess I'm wrong.

And your name and face can be found... where? The minute I submit something to a daily newpaper for publication, I'll be sure to let you know.

Please tell me you're not defending the notion that one must have blood quotient to have intimate knowledge of and feeling for a people's struggle and to know which side of the fight is the right one to support.

A haole, is someone who does not know. You... are hanai. Be proud of your affiliation, and knowledge and island roots."

I part Portagee, Chinese, and Hawaiian (More than most Kamehameha students from what I hear. My mom is Kamehameha alumni from back in da day.) So I no think I haole. But my dad, he's full Portagee. Ask him if he one haole and hoooo da stink eye he give, "I'm a Portagee, no haole." We are a proud race I suppose. :p

oh... uhhh.. "hanai" is adopted. taken into the fold. part of the ohana.
an accepted member of a close hui.
just like family. close friend, confidant, someone trusted and entrusted with sharing and accepting, well... deeper teachings, in this case, of Hawaiian cultural practices...

'sfunny ya mention that. received a luchadore mask at da Collector's show where they featured the 50th state wrestling exhibit.
My booth was right next to Curtis Iaukea's interviews... Good fun. That guy was great.

ok, back to Big Kahuna.......my husband and I were vacationing at the Hale Koa last month, and one day we wandered up Kuhio to eat at Legend, but we were too late for the dim sum, so we stopped in at Big Kahuna's. As we were trying to get our mouths around some huge burgers, I was looking at the tiki decor of the place and was reminded of kimo's rants about it.

So there.....I thought about this board on my vacation.

We didn't go to Big Kahuna's because of hearing about it from you in the local paper, we just stopped in by accident because we wanted drinks.....then one thing led to another and we ordered burgers. I liked the music on the sound system too.

oh, and we were disgusted by the loudmouth rednecks across the street at Tsunamis. As you can see, we were kinda barhopping around Waikiki.

I wrote the following this evening. I would like to share it with our Ohana.

We are brought together for reasons unknown. I would like to think from GOD, as I know him. We come from various cultures, faiths, backgrounds, etc. Whatever the reason, our paths come together... :)

The internet is the most powerful and unique tool to venture into the unknown. Many use an alias for obvious reasons. I mentioned a little on what happened on the forum, I am a member of. Tonight, I want to tell you more of this person.

At one time he took the place of Mark. We would argue on the boards like lovers. In a sense, he made me feel cheery and tickled like a young teen on a first date. No butterflies but I wanted to know more about the man. It went on for a couple of months.

Then one day, the Administrator had enough of our bikering and whatevas. We were both warned. I felt anger and joined two other forums. I emailed the gent that I quit and he did too...his decision. He was going to be busy with his business.

Several weeks passed and yep, I went back to the forum. Why? It was home to me. Plus, I didn't like starting out with x amount of posts. I get a comment via my Blog from my long lost friend. I beg him to come back, telling him the forum is not the same as when he was there. He still stayed away.

About a month had passed when out of the blue, there's a post from him. My heart paced and I quickly sent a welcome PM to him. We wasn't the same. It seemed he hated me. For what, I never understood. He asked me to stop sending him private messages. He wouldn't read them...so I did and avoided him altogether. I simply put him on my IGNORE LIST.

Suddenly, there was a post similar to his but with Wahine (female) attached. Ahhhh, he had a girlfriend/wife. I was happy for him but struggled how could this be. Freaken online flirts don't work. F&*# the Asshole. At the same time I was going through some real life heartbreaks with Mark. I kept strong and concentrated on my Blogs.

Yes, yesterday, I had my chance to get even with him. It was pay back day. Not. Playing on the internet and realizing what is real and not real is important...especially for those like me. We exchanged several emails yesterday and today. I'd love to meet him and his lady someday. He's a really nice guy -- the true to life one that is! As for his personality on the internet...I hope he never changes.

This post is for him. My friend, Kimo55 of hawaiithreads.com!
