I was talking with a friend of mine who lives on the mainland. The conversation got around to music and to what songs reminded him of "home".

Here's the list he came up with:

Back to the Islands-Sonya and Revolucion
Home In the Islands-Brothers Caz
Islands-Malani Bilyu(sp)
Friends-C&K
Flying-The Peter Moon Band
Honolulu City Lights-Beamers

I hope to one day see my buddy again ...untill then I have to make a tape :)

What songs make you think of Hawaii?

I don't know the name of the song, but I've heard it dozens of times on KINE. I would venture that the song is called "Moonlight Lady".

That song always seemed to be on Hawaiian105 in the early morning hours the last few times I was on O'ahu. The song always reminds of me sitting in my Nu'u'anu studio (the one I get to use when I'm visiting O'ahu) during the early morning calm and quiet I experienced nearly everyday there just at pre-dawn, listening to the sound of the morning valley showers, and the occasional cooing of doves.

Of late, I've been expereincing the same kind of conditions where I'm at now...the humid early morning pre-dawns, the quiet, and every now and then the cooing of mourning doves. I wake up in the early AM in these conditions, and I think to myself "Man, this feels like home today!" All I need is the "Moonlight Lady" song to be playing on the radio, and I'd be back home..it would instantly transport me back.

Yeah, Jaime. Your presence was missed both on this board and on your blog.

P.S. Any song sung by Keali'i Reichel reminds me of home. Same with Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and Willie K.

thanks, yall...i was thinking that "Coconut Girl (in a high fashion world)" is another one of those unmistakably local grooves...i heard it on college somewhere on the road once, and everybody in the van sang along...wasn't that Peter Moon?
