View Full Version : Popeye's Dillingham = Mr. Cluck's

I took a bus which passed by Popeyes in Dillingham, and saw a movie crew doing something there. One of the signs was covered up, and another was taken down and replaced by a "Mr. Cluck's" restaurant sign.
Anyone knows what's that about? (or more importantly, what movie?)

Sounds like a new Lost episode!

Hmm, I'm right down the street from there at school...I'm gonna go past there after class to see this "Mr. Clucks." I wish I had my camera...if it is for Lost, I know a bunch of people who would love to see any "behind the scenes" sneak shots.

lol whaddya know? It IS Lost! I went there right after class and saw it. Then rushed home and begged my dad to take me there when he came home. Took the camera and snapped some pics of the place. Also got some pics of Hurley! It looks like this will be part os his backstory, he's a Mr. Clucks employee! I'll post them after I resize and stuff, okay?

It makes sense. He was working at a chicken place before winning the lottery using the so called cursed numbers. His episode aired last night but I missed the first half.

Did the logo look like this?

That's from the shirt Hurley was wearing in the first flashback scene of the Numbers episode of Season 1.

Excuse the glare in some pics, I'm not a good picture taker, especially when you can't roll your car windows down since they've just been tinted :(

Saw the crew near Kawela Bay last week and they stopped us from going to pick some Pipipi(sp?) because we would be in line with the camera. So we had to wait about 45 minutes. Never could see where or what they were shooting though.

I could only drive by after work, so I didn't see Hurley/Hugo (just another, skinny Mr. Cluck employee and an old pickup truck). I posted one quick cameraphone shot (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hawaii), and took a few more with my "real" camera... especially of the sign.
It's cute and obsure enough, I'm thinking, that were I a less noble man, some "Mr. Cluck" fan T-shirts might have appeared on the horizon.

When can we count on your becoming less noble? I want one.

I was counting on Pz becoming less noble and at the same time, remaining just as giving. I didn't say I wanted to pay for one! Besides, the whole sign is a lot cooler than just the chicken.

Well... I won't recommend doing anything, you know, naughty with it... but I'll post what I nabbed when I get home (am at my kid's soccer practice right now) for the good of all Lost-kind.
But Kupomog got a decent snap (http://members.aol.com/kudoshido/bwah/lost03.jpg) already. We'll see how comparatively well my obnoxious 12x lens did soon!

Perhaps this thread title could be edited, since we figured out what the "something" was. And moved from the Movies section to the TV section.

Yeah I passed by there on my way home from work about 4:30. Saw the big chubby dude with the long curly hair... might have had some others but I only recognized that guy since I only saw the last two episodes.

Since it's a flash back sequence it would be from a time before the flight. I am not sure but wasn't Hurley and Jack both from Los Angeles? Maybe Hurley might have run into Jack's dad, mom or wife.
And then again it's a big city.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe...but I was just so crazed at seeing Hurley that if anyone else was there, I wouldn't have recognized them >.< I think they would've all been under the tent when I was snapping away, at least.

Well, here's my snap (http://www.lightfantastic.org/gallery/200509/01cluck03) of the sign.
I also applied some of my poor Photoshop skills to the original image to make the attached. No doubt it'll propagate quickly throughout the Lost-osphere. Just remember where you saw it first! And it probably won't be attached forever, as I shuffle files in the future.
And of course I made my own online shop so I could make myself a T-shirt or two. PM me if you want the link... but you can always make your own stuff!

Here we go, full thingy from Spoiler Fix:
http://spoilerfix.com/images/new.gif 09/06 - DJ Qualls is rumored to appear as a fast food place employee according to THIS (http://www.lightfantastic.org/gallery/200509/01cluck05) picture (and especially if you compare to THIS ONE (http://lost-media.com/modules/coppermine/albums/ep-caps/season1/1x18-numbers/numbers055.jpg) from episode "Numbers"). Hush, now, they haven't shipped mine, yet! :)
Really, though, I'm not sure where this sort of thing falls in the grand scheme of things. Compared to some of the home-made "Lost" stuff I've seen out there, with the actual show logo or photos of the actors, I think "Mr. Cluck's" is more a fun, inside joke. One of many, sometimes infamous fictional companies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fictional_company) (fun link!) to fill out a story rather than an icon.
Like the Oceanic Airlines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceanic_Airlines) stuff on eBay (http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2 F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=Oceanic+Airlines). Or Ono Sendai (http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=611246) stickers for your laptop.

What's the URL for the Lost fan site that's generating all your traffic?I'm guessing it's this one (http://www.spoilerfix.com/lost.php), but it's the nature of fan-sites to copy each other and propogate information far and wide. Photos I took of the set they built at 1 S. King (where Locke's wheelchair reveal took place) appeared on half a dozen sites within a week of my posting them, and only a couple bothered with any credit.
Of course, the converse is being a sole source and having your site crushed ("The Slashdot Effect"). So really, as a Lost fan, it's better to share, anyway.

Did they just steal the picture, or are they stealing your bandwith too?

Did they just steal the picture, or are they stealing your bandwith too?In the case of the Mr. Cluck's pictures? Neither. At the above site, it looks like they're directing people to view the photo on my site, which is ethically correct, but tough on my server. It's generally preferable to their taking the photo and posting it on their own site (though in context it might be confusing, as it is a personal gallery!), and definitely preferable to them displaying the photo on their site but served from mine (which is bandwidth theft).

Oh, okay. You said a few sites didn't credit you for the pictures. But if they're linking to your site, I guess that's credit in itself.
Do you incur extra fees if one of your sites gets slashdotted?

Well, it's not Mr. Cluck's related, but I did just see Matthew Fox about an hour ago. I went to get a soda at 7-11, the one on on the corner of...um...it was by Grocery Outlet/HCC (shoot me for not knowing street names for beans). He came in and was standing behind me in line and I wasn't sure it was him until I snuck a quick look while paying. He's so much taller than me :/ He was wearing just a plain white shirt and black pants, and he had his nice stubblies...
Anyway, I forget what he bought, it was something from behind the counter, cigs maybe, wasn't paying attention since I was trying to pay for my own stuff and left immediately, but I sucked around outside for a little while outside. Then he left and went straight to the small City & County driver's license place (not the one closer to Grocery Outlet, the one right by the 7-11). I really wanted his autograph but I wasn't about to wait outside for him or go in there to bother him. Besides, I had to eat and get right back to my next class.
So that's my story for the day. A missed opportunity to bother Matthew Fox :/

I made a few of my own designs too because I wanted the design a little different. I made them mostly for myself, but if anyone wants one they can get them at:

Mine include "Honolulu, HI" as a location.
