Of course the right tool to use in this case would have been the poll. In any event, this post is in the right forum to discuss about Tiny Tadani as a radio and/or TV personality, good, bad, or in-between this is the place to do it in. Heck even the forum entry says:

Who was it that tried to say that Tiny CD performers were unhappy with what I continue to provide them? Just booked Sean Na'auao (Tiny CD 2) for the morning simulcast interview and a new live lunch broadcast coming soon. Rocky Brown (Tiny CD 1) is calling me back too. Just played Aziel's "Ribbon In The Sky" (Tiny CD 4) on KHUI this morning... even LikaNui loves that one. And Dita Holifield (Tiny CD 1, 3 & 4) and I just hung up talking story about all kinds of stuff. C'mon... show me some proof on that claim!

And stop talking for the former Governor and his wife... or anyone else. Ask them yourselves. I treat them with respect without having to kiss okole. God created all of us and loves us all... evenly. No favorites. In other words... after all is said and done... we're all equal. It's unfortunate that some of you think you're above us.

I think I write with respect... even when I get down on you a little. And at other times, I'm overly nice. So c'mon... let's all be nice. I'll be having some other events to invite you to so we can all meet.

On Saturday, my friends are putting on a Katrina Fundraiser in a Hawaii Kai Coffee Shop. They're a worship band and they have good intentions. I'll drop by.

Craig, you must've seen my Dad after the stroke then. That was a tough time... my mom got Lung Cancer and he got the stroke in the same week. So we had two hospital beds going at the same time. Now it's just "da guys" in the house now. My Dad, brother, son & me... oh wait... one girl... my new puppy, Kona the Queen Beagle.

But my Dad keeps trucking along... can't walk that good, but we make sure he gets to Vegas a bunch of times through the year. He still takes care a lot of chores like the laundry and dishes. And of course helps to raise Taylor since I'm out working a lot. So to answer your question... he's limited on what he can do physically, but he's very useful. And you know him... his mind hasn't eased up a bit!

My Dad had a stroke and when you lose half of your body functions... the word "use" becomes very important. Think about it and stop trying to find fault in me and work on yourself first. Craig, you know busy my Dad was before the stroke, so I think you'll know what I mean. He is "useful" in the world... to himself... and of course to my whole family. So yes he is "helpful"... but even more importantly to himself... VERY USEFUL.

That's one way of looking at it. Another would be that perhaps someone voted NO because it was an inappropriate proposition. I was in the middle of a post expressing this when the thread was shut down, so when I hit the submit button, my post didn't make it up there.

I'm no "camp follower" of Tiny Tadani, and I'll admit now that while I like Tiny on the radio, I'm not sure I like him online. Still, I will neither ask him to leave nor suggest that he be made to. LikaNui, you know I respect you, but this was just way over the line and I hope that if I ever post something that you consider over the line, you'll tell me, just as I'm telling you. Tiny, you have to consider the medium that you're working with here. Unknown alternate meanings to words, particularly when they're personal, don't come across very well. There's nothing to to key in the internal meaning, no body language and no voice inflections....just the word.

LikaNui...I never voted in that poll because it was closed before I could have a chance to vote.

Tiny and I go back but we were never friends as in shoot da breeze, we worked together at the same radio station 22-years ago and our shifts never crossed so I rarely saw him.

As a matter of fact Tiny didn't even remember me and that's why I was a bit upset with him when I tried to make repeated contact with him when I had a sports marketing company (Starcomm Hawaii) that tried to solicit advertising from Oceanic and he never returned my calls. Or the time he blew me off at the KSBE malasada's booth at the Hoolaulea. He highlighted it on his TV Show but he never once talked to me...the guy in charge of the booth.

But hey that's the biz and I simply wrote those episodes off as unable to connect with Oceanic and I went on to other sponsors.

And as Tiny has reflected I was the one that started the whole "Kill Tiny" thing with my remarks about domestic violence in which I was in error and made a public retraction and apology.

I don't hold any miscommunications or unanswered calls to me against Tiny now as I did at the time but I do believe in giving everyone a fair shot at success. Tiny will either be successful or will dig his own grave. Whatever that's not my call and God didn't empower me to entice his failure.

If wishing someone success is called support then okay I support Tiny, but I never wish anyone failure. That's blatently evil.

I know Tiny's dad because I worked with him, he as a client and I as his vendor. For Tiny and his dad my relationship with either was purely professional. And like us we should all be professional when it comes to others. And I mean ALL of us from the senders to the recipients of this thread.

I have to agree with earlier post from SCRIVENER that "on-air" he sounds fun but on the threads is something different.

The more Tiny posts, the less respect I have for him for his apparent poor choice of words and exuberant success by "playing others" and admitting it..... And if I, who is a silent partner in an add agency in Hawaii and LA, can be this turned off by his personality being represented by his posts, then I hope that his clients don't EVER see these threads. Then again, if they're "trade" clients they probably don't care.

It's one thing to be a clown for the audience, but to show ones (_*_) to be shot off and ridiculed by others as if it is a source of image building, advertising and branding is professionally weak. Dude, that's what your doing. So far everybody except your "pals" are attacking you because of how you present yourself on this thread. Yea, you're defending yourself on some of the posts, but some of the stuff that you say in your mega-rants are more telling of you than you think.

The problem is that you say that you'll meet anyone at a coffee shop to talk story in person to show the real you, but how can you be serious about that by the things you say here on HT? If you can't communicate without drawing fire on a forum, what makes you think you can do the same in person? Boxing gloves or a bible, you drew the line in the sand, not anybody else.

I'm proud of the way I represent myself. The reason why my sponsors and businesses support me (mostly cash sponsors by the way... and thanks for caring), is because I strike a true trusting friendship with me. They totally trust me and like me for what I am... knowing I'd go to bat for them... or even in a alley if they were in trouble. I mean that. When I consult other producers and/or salespeople... I tell them my secret. It's not easy. I take it as far as to become family. I emcee private company parties... private private family parties for them, I've even gone to court to support friends in the entertainment field who've gotten in trouble with the law.

As laid back as I am on TV or even i person... I am intense when it comes to backing those who back me. So your concern about ad agencies who read this thread does not scare me. I'm highly confident and somewhat arrogant on my relationships with them. And to be honest, if someone ever didn't want to do business with me from what I do or say here in HT... I don't want to do business with them.

Even more that arrogant... I am confident when I do use Jesus as my main sponsor. Ridicule me if you'd like, but I think if there is a reason for me and some others who live the "good life" here on the thread... it is to keep God alive in the posts. I saw the negativity in that poll too the way it was worded, however like you, the respondant has to read between the lines to see the humor in it or lack of it.

I see a lot of humor in your writing (a bit sarcastic at times but...) and some of the criticism shouldn't be taken personally from you but some are pure literalists and take every utterance you speak of very...well literally.

Because I work with many personality types I wade thru the attitude and look soley at the substance when I try to respond to a person. So with the poll's wording, it's not the choice of words that I respond to (negative aspect of it) but the value of it...which is to let you do your show.

I'm not trying to earn Likanui's respect as we both have a general understanding of each other (I think we both speak mutually of each other having responded before on other threads). But I'm trying to put a little diplomacy into this mix as it can get pretty lopsided at times (mostly against you). You don't get any balance or valued dialog until both sides come to some sort of rapport with each other.

If the thread becomes a bashing event, then I feel it's time to put a little balance into it and integrate some objectivity into the equation so posters here can see some kind of valid counter criticism. Otherwise we all become maniacal witch hunters fueled on emotion instead of reasonable human beings.

If there's anyone reading this post that knows me and disagrees with this statement, please let me know. One thing about being diplomatic is that you have to remain objective in your observations of events such as on this thread. Sometimes it takes a bit of off balance to put things back into perspective, it's called a counter weight. It's always dynamic and always off center because attitudes flare up and cause an imbalance, diplomacy tries to counter it for the betterment of humanity.

Well, that proves once again that you just never know who's reading HawaiiThreads. And that's something that certain people should keep in mind, careerwise.

It's pathetic but not unexpected that Tiny has already jumped in and claimed that Heckathorn's item was about him, when obviously what amused Heckathorn was the "You've met my ex-wife, then?" comeback. I hope that Heckathorn is a regular lurker here and realizes that there are far better writers than myself: Kimo55, Glen, Ryan, Scriv, MadAzza, Craig, and more. Even our dear Auntie! There's some talent for you, Mr. Heckathorn. Consider giving them a weekly guest column.
And I do want to remind everyone of something that I feel is extremely important in all this.
This all started over in the Hawaiian Media section (and as I recall, I started it) because I wanted to applaud and acknowledge Mahlon Moore and Skylark for having the guts and class to stand up for their convictions. These two highly admired, highly respected, and humble talents both quit their jobs because they had the courage to take a stand against discrimination. Their employer, 99.5 and Salem Communications, refused to run an ad based on their corporate anti-gay policy. Mahlon and Skylark refused to accept any more paychecks from them and instead quietly but firmly and with great class, simply walked out the door.
And that, dear friends, is what started all this.
Then Tiny goes in there, doesn't care about his new employer's discriminatory practices. Then he comes in here and figuratively pees all over our tribute to Mahlon and Skylark. He comes in here and repeatedly insults a member who has mental problems, repeatedly insults others, flagrantly advertises and self-promotes and whines for our attention to bolster his admittedly hyper-inflated ego, and does all of this whilst shamelessly -- and utterly astoundingly -- hiding behind a false curtain of religion!
And that, dear friends, is what this is all about.
Mahlon and Skylark have far more class than Tiny could ever dream about having.
There's a valuable lesson there, Tiny, if you'll stop your bragging long enough to pay attention. You need to realize that as long as your lips are moving, your brain isn't learning.
And learn some humility. Use Mahlon Moore and Skylark as role models, not Howard Stern, or your next career move will require you to practice saying "Would you like fries with that order?"
For you own good, think about it.

And they stood by them. They've both been in the biz longer than I have... so you're right... I bow to them.

Mahlon is doing reports for Traffic News Network (the sister company of Surf News Network), which contracts out to the station. Mahlon is basically a subcontractor; he's paid by TNN, not the station. ("Paid" being a relative term. :rolleyes: )
I don't know of any other stations using those TNN reports. No need to pay for them when you can get the same info online in a matter of seconds and have your own staff read them.
The same is true for the surf reports. Not sure how many stations are still using SNN, but I know the number has dropped drastically, for the reason cited above.
And speaking of Mahlon, it's great to still hear him doing so many commercials on radio and TV too. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

To answer your question...

I took this job at KHUI (Salem) because of the great atmosphere and ohana feeling I get. I didn't know or want to know any of the backround of what happened to Mahlon or Sky when it went down. I took the position on what I know and they did the same in hiring me. I'm sure they don't like everything about me... and I'm sure I wouldn't agree on every decision or belief the station has.

If you have to find a place to work where you agree with EVERY SINGLE STANCE AND DECISION they have... good luck. You'd be unemployed and very sour. I respect their decision and they'd have to accept my opinion. I WILL NOT throw any charcoal into he flame by delving any further on the subject itself. But if they ever made a decision that affected me personally, I'd have to consider if I'd work there... and likewise... my decisions will affect if they want to keep me.

Slightly Less Flippant Answer: Is Tiny getting inappropriately personal? Sure. But insofar as he's the subject of the thread, it's hard to not see a Catch 22. This thread is about Tiny Tadani the public figure. Unlike most such discussions, for better or worse, Tiny Tadani is participating. While we should be able to discuss Tiny's professional presentation (or lack thereof) without personal attacks, the fact of the matter is, when it comes to criticism of this nature, there's no clean way to separate the two (or more) Tinys. Tiny certainly can't.

There is a line that shouldn't be crossed, of course, on the far side of which are relentless personal attacks and blind, outright flames. So far, though, I just see petty, simmering snipes.

Frankly, I think the personal attacks that Tiny (or anyone) posts say as much about him as they do the person being attacked. And I think the more anyone contributes to this mess, the worse they look. But for now, if they're happy to continue the downward spiral, I just wish them luck, and strongly advise the liberal application of the "Ignore User" feature of this site.

To answer your question, it is because you give grief to others for stooping to that level, then you do it yourself. You do not hold yourself to the same standards that you expect others to live by.

You use your faith as a crutch to explain away your poor behavior, and you insult others who do not wish to share your faith. Fortunately, we live in a country where freedom of religion also includes freedom FROM religion.

If you cease to be disrespectful to those who disagree with you, you will quickly rise above the muck of these discussions; but as long as you choose to "stoop down" (no one forces you to do so), then you weaken any point you wish to make.

You are a professional broadcaster, and you are respected by many in your field (including your current employers.) Your successes are your best defense, and you have no need to "stoop down" to anyone on this board. LikaNui has simply been putting up a mirror, so you can see the pattern of attack, insult and belittlement in your postings. You are the one person on this thread with the most power to lift it to a better level - but you have not yet chosen to do so.

I am not a fan of Tiny. I am certainly less of a fan after what I've seen demonstrated here. I have also been very disappointed with some of his critics, to be sure, but this is so obviously and easily Tiny's gap to bridge. As long as he's unable to resist the not-so-subtle dig, as long as he waves the "God" card in the air while kicking folks under the table, things will only continue going downhill.

And really, the rest of us are largely just folks who hang out together on a message board. The real-world reputation and, perhaps more significantly, good karma is entirely Tiny's to lose.

And as for your saying you didn't want to know about the station's policy of discrimination, well, I personally find that to be morally and ethically reprehensible.
