Try this
Six Degrees to Hawaii
Play it like you do "The Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" but you have to link back to an actor, singer, director etc, who has deep roots in Hawaii, not just someone who happened to live there for a bit as a kid or was born there while the folks were on vacation. The person can have been born off Island but their family roots still have to be dug in pretty good to qualify.
Then get there in six levels of association or less.
For example:
Boris Karloff can be done in 4 levels
==================
1. Boris Karloff - who was in:
West of Shanghai (1937)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029754/
with
2. Richard Loo - who was in:
Back to Bataan (1945)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037522/
with
3. Anthony Quinn - who was in:
Waikiki Wedding (1937)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029742/
with
4. Nalani de Clercq - who played the character Maile
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0208050/

Have fun!! ;)

Bendin' your rules a bit here, but here's my attempt at it, without using any internet resources. Strictly top-of-mind approach...
1. The United States entered World War II when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor
2. Pearl Harbor made it to Hollywood in two popular films, Pearl Harbor and Tora Tora Tora
3. Tora Tora was a song track on the album, Woman and Children First by Van Halen
4. Van Halen's most recent vocalist was Sammy Hagar
5. Sammy Hagar owns an estate on the Island of Maui
6. The island of Maui is part of an the Hawaiian Island chain, also where Pearl Harbor is on the island of Oahu.

although i'm not clever enough to come up with any real "degrees," i dig this thread because on the road i always thought of it as 2 degrees of separation, but on a personal level...no matter where in the US i found myself, someone i met knew someone i know from home (here), or someone who knows someone i know...uncanny and unfailing thing, that...

Here's another 6 degree circular trip:
1.) One of the highest paid entertainers in Hawaii is Do Ho
2.) Don Ho's most famous song is Tiny Bubbles
3.) When a boat propeller "cavitates", it causes Tiny Bubbles of air in the water
4.) Ocean Water makes up 70% of the surface of the earth
5.) The band Earth Wind and Fire performed in 2002 at the Blaisdell Arena
6.) The Blaisdell Arena is located in Honolulu, Hawaii

To make this more efficient, we should list locals to locals. You get a max of two degrees allowed (which is one too many, imo).
;-)
For example:
I seen Frank Delima when he visited my school in 7th grade.
He wrote the song "Glen Miyashiro".
Therefore, I am calabash cousins to our Glen Miyashiro. Pau.
See? ;)

1.) Glen Miyashiro is a comedy song about the stereotype of Japanese in Hawaii, written and performed by Frank DeLima.
2.) Frank DeLima writes in the song that Glen Miyashiro attended Kaimuki High School.
3.) Kaimuki High School is part of Oahu's public school system, just as is Farrington High School.
4.) Farrington High School, also known as the Governors, was attended by former Hawaii Governor Ben Cayetano.
5.) Before becoming Governor, Ben Cayetano served as Lt. Governor with John Waihee as Governor. When Ben Cayetano became governor, his Lt. Governor was Mazie Hirono.
6.) Mazie Hirono is of Japanese ancestry, just as is Frank DeLima's fictional character, Glen Miyashiro.
Speaking of which, election season is comin' up in '06.

in Hawaii it is one point five degrees of separation; everything is so closely related.
