SARASOTA, Fla. - It all came down to this: Jason Wood threw a "rock," crushing Erin Smith's "scissors" and earning him a trip to Las Vegas.

Ah, that would be the USARPS League (http://www.usarps.com/site/index.php). The Vegas event (http://www.usarps.com/site/index.php/vegas-info/) is actually their first championship event. They're considered the young upstart group compared to the World RPS Society (http://www.worldrps.com/). Here's a Forbes FYI article on the WRPSS' third annual championship event (http://www.forbes.com/execpicks/fyi/2005/0407/061.html) in Toronto... including an analysis of winning strategies. There's a playful rivalry between the two groups.

I wonder if there's a Hawaii chapter of either... and if not, why not? We'd kick butt!

Here's the Wikipedia entry on Rock, Paper, Scissors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock,_Paper,_Scissors).
