So I won't keep anyone in suspense, I'll spill the beans: I'm working at Hawaiian Telcom!! Well, actually I got hired by a tech company who has a contract with Hawaiian Telcom, and we just jumped into the deep end and helped out with customers. Basically I setup email accounts in Outlook, Netscape and other email clients and out of all of my calls, I only got one internet related question.
I now work at Hawaiian Telcom as a customer representitive/Tech Support Specialist (call it whatever you want, I work on the phones solving people's problems). I thought that I’d be doing for an interview early this morning, but I was thrusted into the world of help desk operator.

I didn't expect for you to go that far to find out how to help me with my email through outlook! But thanks. Actually I was able to learn how through a friend and "I've been there and back again" now.

That's the first thought that popped in my head. I can probably help with that in my sleep.
BIG EDIT!!!
Oh, before anyone PMs me about it, the SMTP server isn't working to send out mail. So, you can receive mail, but you can't send mail - you'll need to do it from the webmail. Sorry, but this will be resolved on Monday. (sheesh, I sound like a record - repeating stuff.)
And the webmail address is http://mail.hawaiiantel.net :D

Oh great people are going to be grumbling to me about this too *sigh*.
Luckily for me I have my Gmail account that I send/receive e-mail
through my e-mail program. I still have close to 100 invitations
if anyone like an account let me know :)

Do you actually get to go help them or is it phone support, either way I commend you but if it's phone support, I wish you the best of luck. I know how difficult it can be to explain these types of things to people without physically showing them, or not being able to visually see what their doing.
Again best of luck

I don't think it is. Doc lives here, not India

Good for you! Gainful employment is a good thing!
I've done phone support for programs I wrote; that's hard enough and there were only about five people who called me. Doing it for the kind of customer base HawTel has? Yikes!

Two questions come to mind:
1) Are you taking TheBus to work or are you going to buy a car? and
2) Are they going to make you move to India or will they just make you use an Indian accent? :p
Congratulations again. Hope it works out well for you.

1) I have to make my first ever transfer since I've been taking the bus (Route A and Route 1) then walk to the place. There was barely any parking for us yesterday, and if the five of us got a car, then the Hitel people will get angry. (we parked in their parking lot)
2) I can make a mean filipino accent :D (but I don't use it. I have to talk loud enough because the darn headsets are so old).

Yes, its hard to explain things that you can do yourself. I actually had to imagine that I'm at the customer's side showing them, so my hands was very busy trying to fully explain what wanted to tell them.
But there was one customer towards the end of the shift that I wanted to go to his house and hookup his network for him (old man, lived in Pearl City).

During lunch, my supervisor came in and gave us our first paychecks (atleast for me) and I got paid $500 for the last two weeks!
Unfortunately, this will go directly to my grad project, as this will buy one processor and the video card.

The prime reason most of us work for a paycheck is to pay for things. The majority of them are things we need to have, but over time, you may find that the amount you have for things you WANT will increase.
More important, let's hope you reach the point where you have enough money to assist others to get the things THEY need to have.

Well, if I want to graduate, then I'll need to be ready to get the products if my friend isn't able to (so far, he's been delaying it for a few weeks now, but luckily I have a month to play with).

I just received a voicemail from my supervisor, and she said that the project eneded a few minutes ago. So, I had to work for three weeks at Hawaiian Telcom. That was a good experience, and I am now back in the unemployed line again.

And I didn't complete 8 hours a day, because the stress level in there was much higher than I could handle. I rather cut my hours and cool down than just blow at the caller and get fired (and based on the people who got fired, that's how they were).
I enjoyed working at Hawaiian Telcom, and now since I'm out of contract, I'll be burning some information to get rid of it (fire burn, not the CD burn). Hopefully, NetWorks will take me along again on their next project, possibly with Hawaiian Telcom.
