My wife and I recently spent the week at the Hilton Waikoloa.

Being cautious and not leaving any temptations to anybody...(not hotel staff...but anyone who might lurk around the parking lot at night)
So we took our Ipod and Radio Transmitter into our room so that it would be safe.

We were pleasantly suprised when we could plug our Ipod into their radio and play our own music.

Anyrate... we figured that since we had so much luggage...and anyone knows that if you stay at the waikoloa your room can be up to 3/4 mile away from check in... we used the Valet/Room Delivery Service for our luggage.

We figured we wouldn't go anywhere that week so just add the Valet parking to the bill...

Ooops... didn't realize they were going to charge $14.50 per day for valet parking!!! We never even used our car... It was a big shock to see the accumulated Valet bill....

(my as well self parked for free...and left the Ipod in to be stolen!)

Lesson learned here... Valet Parking is charged daily... not just the day you drop off your car...(whether you use it or not)

It was a great vacation and I highly recommend the Hilton as it truly was a great vacation. (Having the choice to ride a boat or a tram to your room is truly a unique experience)

Ouch.

Wonder what happens if you can't pay for the valet bill?

A couple of years ago I spent the night at a North End hotel in Boston, the night before running the '04 Boston Marathon. This is one of those type hotels that has the mini-fridge with snacks and beverages, video games and movies on demand on the TV, terry cloth robes for lounging in..all the goodies and amenities in the rooms. Of course, everything in this hotel's rooms come with a price. Including the the pen and paper pads that one usually finds in the work desk of the room. I made the mistake of accidentally bringing back home with me, after check-out from the hotel, one of those cheap 25 cent pens with the hotel's name embossed on it. One month later, upon examining my monthly Visa statement, I learned that the hotel charged me $3.00 for the pen.

Manoa, I think most if not all hotels charge for daily parking. Some more than others, of course. It makes no difference whether or not you use your car. Sorry you had an expensive lesson. You coulda done something a lot more fun with the money, I'm sure!

Kahala Hotel & Resort charges $22/day if you park your own car over there. That's far more than the $14.50/day that you have been charged. Somebody gotta pay for their independence from the Mandarin hotel chain.
