What places should I eat at on my trip?
No I won't be specifically looking for local food.
What are the best buffets? Where and why?
The best Ethnic foods?
Best BBQ?
Best seafood?
What places do you have to eat at when you go to Las Vegas?
I'm just looking for a few pointers.

If you enjoy Prime Rib go to Jerry's Nugget Casino on Las Vegas Blvd. North. They have a 24 hour cafe that serves the largest Prime Rib I have eaten for the price. It is very reasonable and come in three sizes,small, medium, and large. It is a "local" casino so most everything on the menu is reasonably priced. All buffets are good and I'm sure you will enjoy the one at Main Street.

Certainly one of the BIGGEST buffets I've ever encountered in Vegas was at Rio Suites. It's actually a series of different ethnic restaurats within this huuuuuge food court. You could have sushi, crepes, chow mein, fried chicken, quesadiillas...all in one sitting for one price. Can't remember how much it cost (was pretty pricey but worth it) but if you go at the right time, they have an aerial show sort of on the "Carneval" theme which is amusing. It's off the Strip, so you need a car. Excalibur has a pretty extensive buffet, too.

Makino Chaya has a branch in Las Vegas, as does Todai. Avoid the buffet at the Golden Nugget downtown (not worth the price). The food court in Caesar's Forum is pretty good too (there's a branch of Spago there as well as a Planet Hollywood).

How much money you think you going win? :D Eating at any of the restaurants in Wynn LV going cost plenty kala because all the places are owned and operated by big name chefs.

The Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay has ono burgers (was talked about on Food Network). Garans you go to Mandalay Bay or Wynn LV or The Palms (Buddah Bar) you going run into people you've seen on TV or in the movies. Lawry's get good steaks. The MGM probably has more different types of restaurants than any of the other hotels on the Strip because it's HUUUUUGE. We would catch the Monorail at that end and ride all the way down to the Strat. Faster den walking!

The Rio actually has two buffets. In addition to the one Miulang mentioned (the Carnival World Buffet), there's another seafood-specific one: the Village Seafood buffet. Been to both; food quality and atmosphere are a bit nicer at the seafood one, with prices to match. The first one is kind of a huge shopping mall food court with better food; lots of families. BTW - While you're at the Rio, be sure the check out the VooDoo Lounge. Even if you're not into the nightclub scene (which I'm not), the bar is near the top of the hotel and has an outdoor deck overlooking the Strip 1/2 mile away. Awesome place for an evening cocktail with a view.

I liked the NASCAR Cafe (http://www.nascarcafelasvegas.com/) for the atmosphere and the cars. Food (http://www.nascarcafelasvegas.com/pdf/menu.pdf) is pretty good too! Plus after you eat you can ride a rollercoaster .

Forgot to mention:
* Check out the Paris Hotel for their very good approximation of a French patisserie for a light snack or breakfast.
* The Mirage Hotel has my very favorite coconut macaroons in the world at its buffet, but I buy the same ones from their little ice cream/bakery in the shopping area.
* And the Bellagio has its own very sumptuous high-quality buffet (for a price)

Geez, now I'm can't wait to go myself! We're headed out there this summer for my wife's Iolani School reunion.

We stayed at Mainstreet so most of our dining was there.

Here is the list:

Tuesday night Freemont ... ox-tail soup ... bland oily ...

Wednesday breakfast Mainstreet ... pretty good
lunch ... El Pollo Loco ... good stuff ... wish they were in Hawaii
dinner ... Main Street ... wasn't too hungry but ate the ox-tail stew
late night ... California ... saimin ... it was ok ...

Thursday breakfast ... Mainstreet ... same stuff
lunch Aladdin ... not bad ... wife liked the Middle-Eastern food ... nice variety
dinner Triple 777's ... wasn't too hungry so just ate buffalo wings

Friday breakfast ... Mainstreet
lunch ... El Pollo Loco again ... wife likes it a lot
dinner ... Mainstreet seafood buffet ... not bad

Saturday breakfast ... Mainstreet
lunch ... Fremont Buffett ... a little different from Mainstreet ... ate prime rib

Theres a really good Korean restaurant on the strip.. man its just like being in korea.. great stuff.

Actually there are so many ethnic and otherwise restaurants all over Las Vegas its ridiculous.. even have a Hawaiian one.

Great city for every kind of food imagineable.

I always go to Makino in LV. They don't even want you to mention the one in Honolulu. They are only using the name. Last time I was there the chef made me a plate of new sushi to judge and it was terrific!

and there was something with bonito flakes also the was excellent.

also the it is hard to beat the RIO buffet. at least 80% of the food is good.
I complained about the ice cream being junk and they brought me some Haagen Daas!

Downtown,California Hotel, second floor. If you miss da hawaii local grinds on your trip. Joe's Crab Shack if you want some family atmosphere and some good food. Not on the strip and be prepared to wait for a table especially on the weekends. Enjoy your trip! :)
