photo request

I have a friend on another board who is living in France who would like a pic of a certain area on Oahu near Kaena point near where she grew up. so since most ppls here are still living in da Islands I figure someone here might be able for help! keep in mind she hasnt been home in years and some of the land marks she has mentioned might be gone
so this is the request:

I want a certain picture.

On the Mokuleia side, just before the first entrance to Dillingham Airfield...coming from Waialua, driving towards Kaena Point...is where my Mom used to have a riding stables. The property ends where the road into the airfield turns left, off Farrington Highway.

Gotta pass the Dillingham place, the Polo Farm, and the Crowbar Ranch...then there's a little canefield, and a stream, and a canehaul road. That's where the property begins.

That's the picture. Of what might be left of the front gate. Or the railway cross sign, saying 'Mokuleia Stables. Or, deep within what is probably a jungle by now, the coconut or the banyan or the ironwood pines.

Sounds like a fun request for a wandering shutterbug! Sadly I don't get out that way as often as I should. I'll keep it in mind, just in case, but I hope your friend finds what she wants!

Was for me...KG is a kind person.

Is there NOBODY that can get me one snap of the old 'homestead'? It's a nice day out, can even go walking around Kaena Point.

Or maybe someone that lives in Waialua (Go Bulldogs!) can drive just the three miles to over there? Please? I am SO homesick!

Out of curiosity, I did a search online (I'm sure your friend did this too and probably already saw this). I know this is from BEFORE the specific area your friend is looking for, but I thought I'd post the link to this old article from the Star Bulletin anyway...it is called "Country Living."

I live in town and maybe go to the North Shore twice a year...and Kaena point side I think I've only been to once in the almost four years I've been here. Sorry I can't get your pic for you--hopefully someone on HT lives closer!

Have you tried posting your request somewhere on Craigslist (www.honolulu.craigslist.org)?

PS If no can find em...ANYWHERE is okay, for a picture, too...Da school, the old bank building, Ranch Camp, the mill, the church, Thompson's corner (ever see the old graveyard, over dere? One pic of a shaveice, the Haleiwa bridge, The UH ag. extension place wid da big lichee trees, at the top of da ironwood road, dat goes up to Wahiawa (jess before the pineapples begin), Sea View Inn (still get double-crust banana pies?), Meadow Gold dairies, whatever looks good.

SusieMisajon have you tried Google Earth? Waialua looks pretty good from above. You can also watch Lost and see the areas around the sugar mill.
