Does anyone know where I can buy those Giant Big Island Mangos in Honolulu/Oahu? They weigh about 3 to 6 lbs each.
Thanks in advance.

Our Shibata mangoes are already in advanced growing phase. No way near 3-6 lbs., but most seasons they grow up to 8" in length. That's pretty big for a mango!
Shibata are best suited to harvest while green or semi-ripe for making shoyu or pickled mango. You can eat them ripe, but it's kinda' stringy and tangy.
We also have Pirie Mango, but they're not in growth phase yet. Pirie is best for eating fresh, sweet and ripe. Most grow up to about 5". Only problem, the recent blight of stormy weather blew away most of the flowers.
Simple serving suggestions...
Mayango!
Chill some ripe, sweet Mango to almost freezing, then peel and slice on a serving plate with a generous dollop of (Best Foods) Mayonnaise on it. Sounds weird, but it's so ono!
Mango Bruschetta
Slice up your favorite french or italian bread and toast until slightly golden on the edges. Remove while still hot and rub a fresh-peeled whole garlic clove into the surface of the bread as if you're 'sanding' it in. Then drizzle liberally with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Top it with several slivers of fresh, sweet mango on the bruschetta, then finish it with a splash of Hawaiian salt and fresh cracked black pepper. Add any fresh green herb of your choice for color. The contrast of "soft and sweet" from the mango and savory/salty/crunchy of the bread will have you begging for more!

Try check that little produce store in Kaimuki behind Big City Diner. We went there once and found several varieties of mango. Seems they try to have a little of everything on hand. Our regular suppliers of pirie and haden mangos all got old and died. (Dad's friends) :( We happened to be in Kaimuki for dinner and stopped in at this little Korean run produce market and was pleasantly surprised to find pirie and haden mangos for sale at a very reasonable prices. :) Hope they're still there as this was over a year ago. :o
