For 6th grade, our class performed "its a small world" (when you have to weave the ribbons onto the pole). I remembered I did other things in elementary, but I can't remember it now :(

I remember some of them...I remember that 5th grade always got to do the May Pole, so I just couldn't wait until I got to 5th grade so I could learn how to do that, since it looked so neat, how they ended up with the woven ribbons at the end. Of course, when I was 5th grade, that's when they decided to do a "Field Day" that year instead of a May Day program. blech. I never got to learn how to do the May Pole :(
In 1st grade, we did "Paniolo Country", complete with cowboy hat, red bandanna, and white shirt with jeans. I still remember some of the moves! Then either 2nd or 3rd grade, we did a hula noho which I can't remember the name of...but we used pu'ili. And in 6th grade, we did a Maori song, and used our own handmade poi balls.
But for the other grades...I just can't remember...I guess it wasn't that memorable as the others. As a teacher now, it really makes me wonder how many of the performances we did are still remembered by the kids...and if they'll remember it 20 years later as well...hehe. :p

I did that in the 4th grade...
But instead of participating in it, I'd much rather be watching the May Pole dance in action.
Secretly wishing for the "head-on" collisions... :p

I remember in 5th grade we actually wore malo for a dance number. Ho da embarrassing. I guess at least we weren't old enough to be worried about, ahem, wardrobe malfunctions.

My school, Lunalilo Elementary, had a big production every year, usually out in the dusty, hot field. Various hula numbers, if I recall correctly, and we got to play with ipu and bamboo sticks and tried to keep itchy lei and haku on while getting sunburnt. One year there was an ant problem, and the "show" was moved to the basketball courts... which was even hotter!

okay...May Day memory.
I was the one who represented Maui on the court but my class did a number about all the mixes of the islands. A big bowl of chop sui. Had all the different ethnic races in Hawaii. Kapiolani elementary, Hilo. 6th grade at Iolani, Oahu, we did a song called Kanaka wai wai. 7th grade I was at Kamehameha school, I was only watching. 8th grade at Kamehameha I was Lanai escort and got to watch the program. Freshman year I was selected to represent Hawaii island but decided to be in the Hoiki instead. No tell my kids but I when dance Hula. They always ask if I know how to dance but I tell them no because I only when learn 3 numbers.
The next 2 years was a blur to me. I never participated in the May day celebration. Senior year I went to Hilo High. I didn't participate there either.
That's my memory.

Eh you guys are good I can't remember anything that I did for May Day...guess I didn't do anything special, I tend to remember the "bad" things that happened when I was in elementary...like having to sit on the teacher's lap for picture taking in the 1st grade  I was always too small and short!
