Source and complete article (http://www.khon.com/khon/displayStory.cfm?storyID=13561)

About a mile of electrical wiring has disappeared, wiring used to light the freeway for motorists in the Waipio area.

Central Oahu motorists drove right by the thieves. The copper wiring for lights is gone along stretches of the freeway below and above Ka Uka Boulevard in Waipio.

It's going to cost the state about $50,000 to replace the stolen cables and get the lights back on.

First toilet fixtures, now this? Hmm... what are they building? (or are they just pissing us off) (no pun intended)

They have to turn in the items to someone to get money. So whomever is accepting these items is shady also. Think about it ... all those brass toilet parts and lengths of copper wire.

Don't forget copper rain gutters. I heard at one time there was a rash in thefts of those as well.

Imagine some knucklehead on your roof jacking your rain gutters. Talk about "sheesh".

Here's an interesting fact:
Since 1982, our penny (http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_mint/fun_facts/index.cfm?action=fun_facts2) has been made of 97.5% Zinc and only 2.5% Copper.

And a penny costs more (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20060512.RMINT12/TPStory/Business) than a penny to produce!
"...the United States Mint estimates it now costs 1.23 cents (U.S.) to make a 1-cent coin and 5.73 cents to produce a nickel..."

Years ago they stole the aluminum guard railings from the freeway and highways.
