  • Saving money... what could you cut out... but you refuse to?

I have an evil habit...I have to have a gatorade a day.

    $1.35 x 365 days = $492.75 per year.

    I've had this habit for about 5 years now 5 x 492.75 = $2,463.75
I figure if I do this for the next 20 years... I will have spent $9855.00!!!!

What do you have that you could cut out of your spending?

If I cut out gatorade alone and put that into a bank...that would be a nice little start on my sons tuition by then.

*sigh* Coffee. But when I tried to stop drinking coffee, people began to beg me to start again and even brought me coffee until I started again

coffee, but because I am the only person in the house who drinks the stuff, I get the hazelnut flavored "pods" that sell for 16 pods/$4.something. Yeah, one is supposed to buy a trendy coffee maker for which these pods are specifically made, but I use them like a tea bag, and soak 'em in hot water until its good and strong.

I gotta have water every so often, so I buy those $1.25 water bottles at the vending machine. But I'm stupid enough not to carry a liter of water in my bag for a few hours because of my laptop and books (ice cold water + heat = not good for books and laptop).

One day I'll learn, but it looks like it won't happen soon.
How'd I get so white and nerdy?

Wow, Manoa. You and I are on the same page! I was about to post the following in a new thread:

"In another thread, Manoasurfer, brought up an interesting point:
'If I cut many of the things I choose to do, such as eat out every lunch and many dinners, quit spending so much money on bottled water, coffee and gatorade... then I think I would be a lot better off.' With that as a 'jumping off point', what are other suggestions for being frugal in this over-inflated economy. What areas have you cut back on to help make ends meet? Have you found substitutions?"

You beat me to it, Manoa!

In france, window shopping is called 'licking the window'. Thank goodness that this small town, that I live in, doesn't have many windows to lick...cause once you get the taste, no can help 'just a little bite'.

Don't go shopping, except for what you really need...food and stuff only. Instead of going out to eat, for socializing...stay home and invite friends for a chat around a cup of coffee, and maybe a home-made cookie or two.

Tighten the belt. Just say 'NO!' to temptation.

A frugal area for me is water. Hawaii has good tap water so bottled water is never on my home grocery list. I buy it for my clients because it's convenient in an office set-up. The bottles I drink during work are refilled with tap water. I honestly don't understand the bottled water craze! Then, again, I have a very limited sense of smell and taste so I can't tell the difference between any of 'em.

If only there was a frugal substitute for gas.
