View Full Version : Mystery Wedding

Something trivial for this Aloha Friday!

I heard through the grapevine that a very lavish wedding is taking place tomorrow somewhere on the Big Island. According to rumors they are paying $2 mil for the band and the catering is being done by Indigo. It is all shrouded in confidentiality agreements, etc. with the people going to work the wedding not knowing who is getting married or the location. I had this funny thought that the staffers would get off the plane, say a code word and are then blindfolded and whisked away to the 'secret' spot. Any thoughts on who it might be?

Kind of bizzare to have the wedding on one island and be catered by a place that is on another island.

Wide stab in the dark, might be the wedding of Matthew Fox and Michelle Rodriguez.

Cameron & Justin!

My money (if I were a betting person :D ) would be on this pair. Choosing Indigo as the caterer makes sense if you are familiar with Honolulu (which they are). Other celebs might go for the big name chefs. I guess we'll find out soon enough!

Er, if they're spending $2mm on music alone, wouldn't they want to spring for better food than Indigo? I'm jus' sayin....

I was thinking it might be someone who were former Big Island residents who now live in Oahu but anyone who has lived here for any amount of time would have gotten the food catered on the same island as they were getting married.

I made a mistake in my initial posting I meant to say "wild stab in the dark" not "wide stab in the dark" but basically I was trying to "I am making a wild guess". Also come to find out that Matthew Fox is already married.

And it couldn't be someone in HawaiiThreads. They would have invite some of us to attend.

Back on topic. The wedding can't be Dog Chapman and Beth, since that already happened last month and I also doubt their budget was $2 million. Maybe 1% of that, but.

The entire event is shrouded in secrecy, confidentiality agreements, etc. The only person I can think of who might know would be Tom Moffat - he seems to know everything. Of course, if you know someone who works at the Kona airport have them keep an eye on the private jets arriving.

1stwahine - The Stones wouldn't want to come considering Keith Richards took a head dive from a coconut tree in Fiji - he might do it again!

In 1998, the Stones did play at a private party on the Big Island a couple of days before they flew into Honolulu for their Bridges to Babylon concert:

My guess...

Someone rich... but not from America...and maybe not even that well known!

(Thus, maybe the Indigo choice for Catering)

A shiek?

A Japanese son/daughter of a Multibillionaire from Japan?

I know this much... if it's true.... It's someone that's going to have a beautiful wedding!

Hey how about a possible renewal of vows from somebody already married even?

Miulang
June 9th, 2006, 07:37 PM
OK, how about the Donald renewing his vows with his wife Melania Knauss as a way of celebrating the recent birth of his son, Baron? He could then write the whole thing off as a business expense because he could stop in Honolulu to take a gander at where his eyesore will be built. ;)

There isn't a band on the face of this Earth that is worth $2 million for a single performance. The only one that could even come close is the Beatles, and that's *if* they brought back the dead ones.

However, I'm almost certain that figure is quite inflated in the way these things tend to be when heard through the grapevine, no?

(btw ... *very* funny, Lavagal!)

In 1998, the Stones did play at a private party on the Big Island a couple of days before they flew into Honolulu for their Bridges to Babylon concert I was there at the time. It was a private performance for a Pepsi corporate convention in Kohala. Pepsi went so far as to pay most of the stores on the Big Island to take Coke off their shelves for those few days and only feature Pepsi. There was also a 'competition' near Kohala for area residents to create Pepsi logos out of lava rocks (instead of the usual piles of white lava rocks). One person made a big Coke logo, but it was removed rather quickly. :p

If you were at the Mauna Kea hotel last night, you could hear the band rehearsing. It disturbed the peace, but I didn't get uptight. And, if you walked the King's Trail in that area this morning, you can see some of the activity going on as well as the large stage and light set up. But, the trail is rough so don't wear high heel sneakers. 'nuff said?? If you're still wondering... just kiss me, baby.

I'm still waiting for news. I think the guess that it might have been someone ultra-rich but not famous may be correct. As soon as I hear from the source who is waiting to hear from a source who is...anyway, you get the picture.

Regarding patrick808's hints at who the band might be, at first I thought the Stones and then I thought it might be Michael Jackson. Perhaps he'll post again and tell? :)

Update: The music was by Stevie Wonder. I still don't have a name on the person who got married but they are associated in some way with Oracle. I don't think it was Larry Ellison as he got married (for the fourth time) just a couple of years ago. More details when I have them.

Stevie Wonder for $2 million? I think MadAzza's right... the numbers have probably grown exponentially with each relay on the gossip line. Still, interesting if he's indeed performing, since he was last in the news because of his mother's funeral (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-06-09-hardaway-obit_x.htm?POE=LIFISVA).

Yes, Stevie Wonder played a private show for this wedding. It was the sweetest gift ever.

Imagine this: NONE of the guests, nor the bride, know about the night's feature entertainment. It's that time of the night, for the couple's first dance. The band takes the stage, with an unknown singer. They start play "My Cherie Amour." Stevie Wonder is actually singing backstage. The couple has the spotlight for most of the song. Then, SW appears onstage. He is (one of) the bride's favorite artist. The guests cheer. Later during the set, the groom sings almost a whole song from the stage. And, the couple sang a little part of a song together.

If only we all could afford to have our own fantasy wedding.

The happy couple's identity is less interesting than SW to the general public. So, I will respect their privacy. But, if you're in the right circles, you might recognize MB & LK.

If you really must know, ask Governer Lingle, she was there.
