Uncle George Naope (http://www.thehawaiichannel.com/news/9379881/detail.html) was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Uncle George was a founder of the Merrie Monarch Festival and has been dancing hula since he was 3. The award officially recognizes him as a national treasure. The couple of times I've had a chance to meet him in person, he's always been very nattily attired in color coordinated papale band and shirt and ukapila lei!
