View Full Version : IM's Unsafe To Use ?

There was an article in Hawaii Island Journal from the tech writer saying people
should cease using instant messenger programs because they are unsafe. As
they supposedly open up ports on your computer risking you to identity's theft.

My personal opinion is that, I've used IM's for 8 years and never had a security
problem with any of them.From my using IM client is small potatoes than using
a P2P client, which opens you up to more chances to identity theft and legal problems.

IMO, as long as you do not keep identification records on your PC, there is nothing for them to steal.

I just started using Mac's iChat with AIM. I love it! It is sooooo much nicer than the regular AIM client on the PC. I wonder if it is any safer than other clients?

wouldn't the problem be the people/bots that you talk to through instant messaging?
