Ehhh howzit Peepz...

I came across this website a short while back, and finally made it official on joining this site. I'm surfing in from the mainland, but it's nice to catch up on what is goin on in da islandz. Though I am from the mainland, Hawaii will always be my second home. Visiting often when I was a child, left great memories that I plan to share with my keikis :D

My family plans to visit next summah... can't wait!!! I'm looking forward to catching a big dose of da Aloha Spirit.

Hi Aunty and TutuSue

Thanks for the welcome. I'm cruising in from Torrance - SoCal. Here is my family's slice of heaven for now, but no telling what the future holds for us. I've been a beachboy all my life, so I probably couldn't survive living far from the ocean.

Ah, Torrance! Both my kids were born at Little Company of Mary Hospital when I lived in Manhattan Beach! I don't s'pose Dr. Starley is still delivering babies in that area...is he? Oh wait, I'm retirement age so he'd be long retired! :D

Aloha e Alana,

I'd like to correct you. I don't mean to be picky, but "wai" means "who," so when you ask the question "'O wai kou inoa?" you are asking "Who's your name?" in English. You don't use "wai" when you answer the question, so it would be "'O Alana ko'u inoa." Follow?

I hope you don't mind me correcting you. I'm learning 'olelo too.

A hui hou!

Aloha e Pua'i Mana'o,

E kala mai, but could you please translate that into English for me? I'm not fluent, but maybe I will be someday. For feauture reference, please write a paragraph in Hawaiian and then write it in English so I know what you're saying. I hope you don't mind.

oh dear Akrauth, if you wish to correct a person's sentence, it is more appropriate to write it in a pm so that we can keep it civil between us.

My point for writing that is that the use of olelo among the fledgling speaker should be encouraged, thus corrections should be gentle. That is the culture behind the thought. In Hawaiian thinking, to correct publically is to challenge, unless it is between ohana or a kumu and haumana, which in this case neither you nor I are to achow.

aloha, Pua'i
