  • A new HT milestone

I'n not sure whether to congratulate Ryan or offer sympathy, but HT hit a new milestone yesterday when the membership level hit 11,000.
From the bottom of HT's main page:

    HawaiiThreads.com Statistics

    Threads: 13,358, Posts: 239,472, Members: 11,000

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Actually that number is the number of people who attempted to sign up to HawaiiThreads.com. If you look at the Members List the number of registrated users is only at 4294 users at this time. 513 of those users have at least rank of Haumana (20 posts).

Then how come the bottom of the main page says "Members 11,000" and not "Attempts 11,000"?!???
Also, I seem to recall that in previous updates about membership milestones the numbers were never challenged or disputed.
Perhaps your 4,294 is the list of people who have actually posted and the other 6,306 actually joined but never posted anything?

I have no idea why that is so. All I am saying is that if you look some where else on this web forum you will find that numbers don't match up.

And as far as people who have registrated and not post a thing, if you sort the member list by the number of post that they did, starting from page 77 and running to page 144 are the users that didn't post anything at all.

"Attempt" indicates the act of trying without success. It's not difficult to sign-up on HT. Seems to me that 11,000 might be the number of people who successfully registered whether or not they post.

Just for curiosity, I performed an advanced search to see how many HT members have posted in the last 2 years. Any guesses? The answer is:

                  Re: A new HT milestone

When signing up to HawaiiThreads.com two things need to happen before you are registrated.
                  1. The admin has to approve the application (this step was put into place around 2007).
                  2. An email message is sent to the applicant so that they can confirm the registration by clicking on the link within that message.

I suspect most of the failed users fall under #2 were they fail to confirm the registration, either because they had second thoughts about joining, or gave the wrong email address, or their email client can't link to a browser, or just plain forgot about it.

The thing is if you fail to confirm the registration process, that username is still in HawaiiThreads's roster of users. It will not show up in the Members List section and no one else can use that username.

Which also reminds me banned users also count in the total number of users, but they won't show up or be counted in the Members List section.

Just to be clear, that 11,000 members are the number of user names that are in the HawaiiThreads.com roster of users. Out of that number 4,294 users are registrated and have the ability to post within HawaiiThreads.com.

A wise step, too - it has really cut down on the spammers.

Well then, let's still call it a milestone - any excuse for a celebration. Yay, HT.

Did we miss the 10,000 member milestone?
Will we have had 12,000 applications by 12/12/12? (Our last chance this century for numerical concordance).

                      Hmmmm.
11,000 applications, 4294 members, and about 650 active in the past two years. Sounds like "many are called, but few are chosen."

Nah...I got in before approval was required in 2007. I wasn't even aware of that! Those were the days of chiclets!

I was so nervous when I applied last year. I'm not afraid to admit this now. I got an email saying, "We have to make sure you're a real person. Can you prove that? And we have to approve you." It took over a week, but then I got the email! They like me! They really like me! And I was glad, b/c I had a list of questions about moving that I rapid-fired off to you guys. Hey, I've been here for over a year!

I don't know about that. But, I have a craving for some mmm... coffee. Is there a website I can go to satisfy my taste buds?

"Mamasaid" knock you out ... or at least ban you from HT.
