I was reading this. So the first settlers in Hawaii came from Micronesia. Once arrived, they lived pretty much alone for 1,000 years. Then a group from Tahiti arrived at the Big Island. They were...

Re: Pidgin evolution?

That's true, with less "face to face" communications part you noted. I would also think to Pidgin communications also include motion and hand gestures.

When do you think Pidgin stop evolving?...

Pidgin evolution?

Now, I've been away from Hawaii for more than half of my life. That's a long time. Have you notice any change in Pidgin? I assume like all form of language communication, it will evolve.

What...

Re: "Magnum P.I." Reboot on CBS

The old Magnum P.I. did cause an inconvenience for me twice. One time, I missed an entire Saturday of studying at UH. I got off the bus and spent the next 4 hours watching them film for 2 minutes....

Current plantation history

In Hawaii's plantation history, first, there was the Chinese. Then the Japanese came. Then the Koreans around the 1900s. Then the Filipinos in the 1930.

There were some overlap, with the...

Re: Is cost of living really why so many move?

That's partly why I don't want to go back, because I would be sad to see/feel that my Hawaii is not the same.

Everything changes. I probably can not call myself "Local" now since more than half...

Pua Olena - Lim Family

I tried to do some research but the results don't match my memory.

If you know or remember, please correct me.

Pua Olena is a song best remember by the Lim Family.

Re: "Magnum P.I." Reboot on CBS

The new Five-O did try to connect with the old Five-O. And yet, made it new and it's own style.

I felt the new Magnum tried to recreate many of the past scenes from the old Magnum. As I was...

Re: 2018 UH Warrior football season

It's always important to say the right things in life. You never know. So I get the "public statements."

There must be other reasons for leaving, when you are the starting QB. The job was...

Re: "Magnum P.I." Reboot on CBS

I'm ready to give it a chance. Not sure if that "magic" (of the original) will be there.

Re: Is cost of living really why so many move?

I live on the mainland, but I left for other reasons (not the cost of living).

Crime? You can choose the city and neighborhood.
Homeless? You can choose the city and neighborhood.
Snow? You...

Re: Isn't construction actually good?

There will always be someone at the top of the food chain. Let's leave him out (foreign, domestic, or local). Isn't there a lot being trickle down? So it all depends on which side of the fence on...

Isn't construction actually good?

Don't get me wrong, I miss the way (Oahu) Hawaii used to be. In the last 10+ years, the construction boom have just gone wild. I get the resentment. How the state bird is the steel crane. Hawaii...

Re: Missile attack on Hawai‘i!

Can someone share their true feelings? It's not real, so some are joking about it, takes fine. But at that time, what were your thoughts?

I don't mean stupid guys sending out the message, or be...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I totally agree. But I would think they would try to keep the old actors as much as possible, even if they are not the main stars. Ford does not want to do it. Fisher died in real life. At least...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I don't like it because it seems like Disney is trying really hard to "forget" the past. I think "the past" is what's going to keep fans interested.

Must be some royalty issues or something. All...

Re: Is cost of living really why so many move?

I left Hawaii. Now, more than 1/2 of my life has been spent on the mainland. So not sure if I still qualify to have an opinion on this question.

I have a lot of things I know I would never have...

Re: "Magnum P.I." Reboot on CBS

This is not anti-Grace Park but if they need to do a better job casting. Meaning, if they cast her as "Grace Tanaka" I'm ok with that. And not play her off as "Hawaiian." I get it, today, it's...

The more I read into this, yeah, the more that's true.

The old thinking, even when we were kids.

I'm half Japanese, half Hawaiian is not "true." DNA is not like math.

BTW, so the (old)...
