In a way, the early SNL cast were successors to Burnett's crew, as far as providing sketch comedy that was live, spontaneous, and edgy for its time.
Carol and Timmy seemed to provide the bulk of the spontaneity and energy, while Harvey, Vicki, and Lyle fed off of them wonderfully. This cast had a chemistry that was just unmatched. But later, Lyle and Harvey left and it just wasn't the same.
