Jimmy Fallon laughs during skits. But, I can't think of an actor who laughs on camera on a pre-taped sitcom.

It's rare and brief of course, but things were looser back then on the cheap shows, they'd let things slide if only to save $.

The large Ampex 2 inch video tape recorders had 4 tape heads and made
at least 16 headswipes per frame. The old tapes are enormous. A five minute show was a fifteen pound videotape. |

Years ago, it used to be a source of pride to get your fellow performers to lose it, due to your antics. Tim Conway was a master of the craft; he would crack Harvey Korman most often, so much so that it became a regular part of the broadcasts of "The Carol Burnett Show" - usually because they could never get a good take out of the team. If they ran a scene again and again to get good footage, it would take so long that they lost the great audience reactions. |

The Korman/Conway/Burnett crack-ups turn my stomach still today, I couldn't stand that show. To me, an attempt that failed miserably.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_the_Stomach_Turns I consider Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett comedy icons..when Lucy's act faded somewhat Burnett took the baton and ruled the tv airwaves during the 1970s...I can't think of anyone who has filled either of their shoes since..... |

That is rather ironic.
I remember trying to like that show, as I liked all the personnel, but it just wouldn't appeal to me and eventually grew to hate it. It just seemed too shallow, especially as it became nearly iconic in repeats. I even consider Carol to be overrated, to me her body of work doesn't add up to her stature.

Carol and Timmy seemed to provide the bulk of the spontaneity and energy, while Harvey, Vicki, and Lyle fed off of them wonderfully. This cast had a chemistry that was just unmatched. But later, Lyle and Harvey left and it just wasn't the same.

Andy Kaufman purposely forgot his lines on the tv show "Fridays" during a skit. A pre-Seinfeld Michael Richards ad-libs by taking the cue cards and tossing it at Kaufman.

Richards is on Cheers right now, playing an excentric artist. Or, is that redundant?

Odd that the seeming one discrepency in ME's advertising is Hawaii 5-0 being on around the time of Cannon. It's not listed in the schedule today again. I'll tune in to check, hoping there's a mistake and I can watch it.

I know! My sleep schedule is nearly non-existant now.
Still no 5-0, yet they always advertise it, with a time slot. Pissin' me off.

Mission Impossible and Combat are both great shows.
There is a lot to read "between the lines" in the plot structure and dialog of both series. Is the Rat Patrol available? Another series I enjoy is "The Avengers" with Emma and Patrick. Some of that production crew worked on "The Saint" and some of the initial Bond films. |

Yet thet air daily commercials promoting it and advertising it as airing around the Cannon time slot. Maybe it's a mainland thing.

Bummer news, they'll be showing MLB Giants games until the season's end. Being from LA, this is exceedingly horrific.

The Prisoner is a very strange show.
Worth watching with a skeptical eye. |

MeTV is airing episodes of The Lone Ranger from the 1950's.
One episode had James Arness and another with John Banner. What clued me was their voices that sounded familiar to me. |

Those gentlemen are half brothers.
The actors on 'Gunsmoke' were consumate pros who knew how to get footage rapidly and on budget. The man from uncle series is hella fascinating. ![]() |
