  • Any 'cath labs' in Hawaii?

Do any of our hospitals have these specialized abilities that can save lives suffering from cardiac arrest better than the emergency room? http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle...aPc:_Yyc:aUUsZ

I don't know if you got any answers, Ron, but this is the page for our cath lab at Pali Momi Medical Center.

I know Queens has interventional cath labs, and I am sure several of the other island hospitals on O`ahu have one as well.

You are welcome! Just to let you know, there is always a nationwide effort to have a very short time from a patient entering the door of a facility to treatment in a cath lab. It's called D2B time (door to balloon) and if you google that you will get hits like this one from the American College of Cardiology or this one that discusses EMS activation of a cath lab. At Pali Momi, we want our time to be 60 minutes or less, and most of our patients get there in less time.

Cath labs can give interventional treatment for many types of heart attacks (with interventional cardiologists) and some strokes, too (an interventional neurologist is needed for this one.) Clot-busting medications are available to be used in EDs for these problems if needed, but the cath lab physician does a more precise job by dealing directly with the clot or blockage.

Interesting stuff, and those links are great. Sounds like we are ahead of the curve on some of this, but I still wonder how things work out in an emergency in Hawaii.
