I'm bummed that Yasmin Dar is leaving:
"Yasmin Dar has been hired as news anchor at KVAL-TV in Eugene Oregon, where she will anchor the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news beginning August 30. "KVAL News Director Sean Flanagan saw Dar on KITV 4 News This Morning while he vacationed in Hawaii. "We believe that Yasmin will bring a unique dynamic to our newscast that will resonate with our viewers," he said in a memo to KVAL staff. "This is an opportunity of a lifetime," Dar said, in a statement. (...) "Dar's last day at KITV will be August 17." ![]()

Yas leaving reminds me of Maria Quiban's departure during the mid '90s. Two sweet, beautiful news ladies offered opportunities far from home.

Another one was Kualoha Taylor. I saw her on a newcast in San Diego. That was awhile ago. Is she still a newcaster?

Folksy newswoman Marissa on KHON2 delivered the 6pm news tonight using a "casual friendly" approach, when reporting on an injury story:
"Two little kids were injured....". "Little kids" ... THAT'S THE BEST THAT KHON2 NEWS CAN SCRIPT on a weekend? ![]()

Is she married to Keoni Dudley?

Dudley is her maiden name. IIRC, she's married to Kaimi Judd.

Who is the new sports guy on HNN? I noticed yesterday while watching the 5pm newscast. I think he was a new face since he was wearing a lei and I had not seen him on HNN before.

Reason I said former is he's no longer retrieveable through the online UH directory. Googled some more and found that he's listed now as an emeritus professor, which doesn't necessarily mean that he's not still teaching.

Three sports guys are a lot for a local news station. Is either Mike Cherry or Chris Tanaka leaving?

Shawn Ching is dropping TV, going back to full time lawyering (Erika story in today's Star Advertiser). And guess what? His wife's name is Stephanie Lum. No, not co-anchor SL.

CORRECTION: Shawn Ching's wife is Stephanie Ching. Her maiden name was Uechi. A previous version of this story and the story on page B2 in today's paper said that her maiden name was Stephanie Lum, identical to the name of a Hawaii News Now anchor. |

Dang, I didn't get my channel changed soon enough and there was Marissa (KHON 2) on the 5pm newscast with more of her chit-chat approach to the news.
"Hey, do you have any ideas......." Hey, yes I do have an idea, don't try to be my friendly neighbor when giving news. I mean, it really bugs me ("really" being another favorite word of hers to insert during the news broadcast). They need to put her on a morning talk show format, where her casual delivery would be a better fit.

Marissa added tonight, besides her usual descriptive "really bad", the professional newswoman comment "how awful". Joe better stop taking vacation time to be in a play.
Next on is Hawaii808 (delay). They need to send Marissa over there, where chit-chat is part of the program.
