  • Most vulnerable U.S. state

Yawn, time to turn off the computer for moi moi, maybe a quick last minute check of the online newspaper before shutting down the computer. A nice peaceful rest tonight.

Oh, wait, that was my thought, but then I read the headline story about a new missile test (of the defense type meant to intercept ballistic missiles). Towards the bottom of the SA story was this quote:
“Hawaii, with its geographic location and its strategic role in projection of U.S. military capability and command (of) the Pacific region, is without doubt the most vulnerable U.S. state of the 50 states,” the advocacy group said. “It is the closest to both North Korea and China in the middle of the Pacific.”
Yep, that took the peaceful thought right out of the "peaceful rest tonight".
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.

Sad, but true. But we have known this for a long time, certainly since Pearl Harbor.

It's probably less so today though, since missiles can travel all around the globe. True, NK will first be able to strike Hawaii before it is capable of reaching the mainland. But if they actually did strike Hawaii without being able to reach the mainland, it would be open to any kind of retaliation with no ability to further threaten the US.

I don't think NK's best ICBM (the Taepodong 2) has enough range to reach Hawaii, but it can reach Alaska. That being said, I don't think Alaska is even a target of strategic value to NK.

A lot of what NK is doing is flexing and posturing to test the president's impulsiveness and grasp of foreign policy, I think. So far, IMO, he's done enough damage to himself by blabbering about carriers that aren't doing what he said and talking about Korean history that he learned over chocolate cake. That irritated the South Korean people.

NK's landing some jabs to our international relationships without even throwing a jab at all.

That won't be much of a test before a big FAIL is evident.
