Default Paul

Saw the movie Paul in the late afternoon at the Ward Theatre.

The movie is about a couple of guys from the United Kingdom who are in the United States attending a ComicCon, they then take a road trip to visit Area 51 and Roswell and along the way they meet with an alien from outer space named Paul who has been living on Earth for the last 60 years and needs to go back home.

However there are others who are after them. Some of them are after Paul, a couple of people are after the two guys from the UK (they backed into their car before meeting Paul) and a dad is after them for taking his daughter.

This movie crosses many genres and pays homage to many sci-fi and adventure films and a couple of TV shows in the process. While it is a funny movie the humor is kind of crude/rude which is one of the reasons why this movie is rated R.

Did you like it, Helen?

My wife is very curious about this one. The promos don't do a very good job of selling it, except to clearly say, "we want to reach the lowest common denominator." My friends who have seen it, though, say the movie is smarter than it looks.

There is one quote in the movie that kind of sums up this movie "Paul is not bad, he is just rude".

One might groan at some of the homages to the various movies but that might be offset by the action scenes. This movie is more like Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle so leave the kids at home, it is a guy flick.

There was an episode on Get a Life where Chris Elliot befriends an ET alien. All the alien did was to spew gross digusting stuff all over the place.
