Default KTUH Moving

Just a quick note to mention that KTUH has filed an application at the FCC to move from 90.3 to 90.1.

Will the translator frequencies remain the same?

I assume they'd be boosting their wattage at the same time... I remember not too long ago, when they barely made any noise at 100 watts. How far are they heard now? They're at 3,000 watts currently, right?

Maybe. But there must be a reason for the frequency shift. I don't remember any problems back when I as there, but then HPR hadn't fully ramped up.

And that would mostly be on the Hilo-Volcano side. On the northern side KHPR is on KKUA 90.7 FM.

Now what this has to do with KTUH's signal traveling that far at only 3000 watts is beyond me. Unless they are getting a huge signal boost, but I somehow doubt it.... especially to Hilo-Volcano.

The filing window for new non comm FM stations opened this morning and lasts for the next week. It will be interesting to see how many applications are filed for new non comm stations in the State. It appears from my review of the KTUH 90.1 engineering documentation that they will have an enhanced signal on Oahu.

From what i've heard, KTUH will move to 90.1 in late December or early January with an island-wide signal. They have already discontinued the 89.9 Windward translator in preparation for the switch.

UH Hilo now runs a Low Power FM at 101.1. They previously had a very week AM signal at 1640.

KUHH

Programming is similar to KTUH. The station also streams. See website link.

Because KTUH is about to get an island-wide signal, the college station will IMHO be more like Oahu Community Radio. Kauai has their community radio station (Kauai Community Radio KKCR 90.9 & KAQA 91.9). Maui has their community radio station (Manao Hana Hou Radio KMNO 91.7, formerly Manao Radio KEAO-LP 91.5).

More than likely not. We already have Hawaii Public Radio @ 88.1, 89.3 other signals statewide that already fulfill most of that role as "community radio". I think KTUH will stick to its format as being mainly student run in 3 hour blocks 24 hours a day.

All of these radio stations also stream online for free and that hasn't changed their programming much.

I just heard that the move to 90.1 FM to achieve island-wide coverage is being delayed until mid-March, which is a very long time to wait. Please sign my petition to expedite the island-wide coverage of KTUH:

There must be some technical reason why KTUH is delaying the move from 90.3 to 90.1. Remember, KTUH also streams for FREE online so that it can be accessed 24-7-365 from just about anyplace on Earth with an internet connection.

KTUH started broadcasting at 90.1 FM today.

I had to download the instructions on how to reset the frequency on my digital tuners after not touching them for quite awhile.
