  • Sugar Bowl Tickets Sold Out

Just when you thought maybe we shouldn’t fire Herman Frazier, his athletic department makes yet another a monumental mistake. Namely, giving back 4,000 Hawai‘i section tickets to Sugar Bowl officials, when hundreds, perhaps thousands of fans who have already spent money on travel and/or accomodations can’t get a ticket!

What can/should be done about this? See just how many fans are pissed.

Considering there are clearly more tickets already in circulation than there are available seats anywhere to get from Hawaii to New Orleans, it seems like a pretty reasonable call to me. If you were one of those brave risk takers who went ahead and made travel arrangements in advance of having tickets to the game, I suspect you'll have no problem finding ten people with the opposite problem.

Not at all a reasonable call. Bobby Curran was on the air Monday morning giving people advice on driving to New Orleans from Dallas, from Chicago, and even from Newark. Many callers said they were considering flying somewhere nearby and driving in. New Orleans itself is a frequent host of the SuperBowl, so it mostly has the infrastructure (including beds) in place for events like this, whether the planes have enough seats or not.

Don't forget, one can try using Amtrak or Greyhound to get there from another city on the mainland. Just need to be creative.

The 2 closest airports outside of New Orleans are going to be Baton Rouge (about an hour and a half away) and Mobile, Alabama (about 2 1/2 hours--and you can stop by Austal and check on the progress of Alakai 2). Flying from Honolulu to Mobile via Delta, American or Continental will cost around $1000 RT, depending on the day you choose to fly (cheaper to fly on the holidays). You can also fly into Gulfport/Biloxi on American and pay less than $1000. Biloxi is about an hour away from NO.

Hopefully the local news folk pick up on this and do frequent segments on how to get on the road to the Sugar Bowl. I'd rather see a lot of UH's greens than UGA's reds in the stadium seating.

For the sake of the Warriors’ loyal fans, I hope you are right. My gut, though, is a number of them will end up staring at eBay, and cursing their bank balance and the department’s short-sightedness.

There’s a comment from UH’s heralded quarterback at the end of this video. Listen to what Colt Brennan himself has to say about the ticket fiasco. To me, that says it all. If the #1 cheerleader for this Sugar Bowl game cannot stand behind Frazier on this one, I say it’s time for him say aloha. His record has been a concern for some time... but this is really the last straw.

Actually, Frazier is not only to blame. I'm wondering why Sugar Bowl officials want the 4000 tickets back.

Are the officials trying to eliminate UH's "12th man" on such an important day? Didn't realize some of the Sugar Bowl official are UGA's fans.

Our news media should investigate, stick a mike down the Sugar Bowl people's mouths and get some answers as to why they're singling out islanders.

                    This Just In...

KHNL's Jason Tang have just reported that UH will be getting back 500 tickets from the Sugar Bowl officials. Nothing official on when they're going to be on sale.

500? Out of 4000 tickets they're forced to give back? This is pathetic. Auwe!

Hawai'i Bowl officials better be taking some lessons out of all this.

I was in new orleans about six months ago and I would reccomend not hanging around the Superdome at night unless a game is on. It gets pretty bad in certain parts of that town and you have to be very careful. If you stay in the tourist areas it is great with lots of police and security around.

The historic streetcars were still not operating when I was there, still down from Katrina. I took a tour of the Katrina damage which is still very visable, 2 years later in various parts of the city.

Unfortunately I was there on a Monday when I decided to sightsee wanting to see the riverfront aquarium and state history musuem only to find it was state law that Mondays everything run by the state is closed, a tip for you folks going there.

Loved the benet's at Cafe Dumonde!! I think they are even better than Malasada's!! But be careful about eating raw oysters I had a bad experience with those to say the least.

Overall I had a great time there and I should mention how I got there, Honolulu to Phoenix on Hawaiian and then Southwest Airlines to New Orleans was cheap only around 89 bucks at the time.

Makes you wonder how the Sugar Bowl officials -- as well as NOLA county -- will handle security for the Sugar Bowl events leading up to, during, and after the game itself.

I believe the NBA All Star Game will be in New Orleans in February, some players have expressed displeasure over this and want to boycott the game for fear of safety issues which I think are ridiculous. They had enough problems at the Las Vegas NBA All Star game last year, maybe it's because the NBA fans are coming into the city and causing more problems than the locals?

I stayed in the French Quarter area and the hotel security, valet's, etc. told me to be careful walking into certain areas I figure you should listen to people like that. Bourbon Street in my experience was still going strong at 2am in the morning so if you stay in that area it is okay.

They also have a casino high rise, Harrah's near the river, but I didnt get a chance to gamble there much to my dissappointment.

While it seems logical to assume that Sugar Bowl officials calculated Georgia would be the bigger draw, I wouldn’t give them a free pass. To date, I have read no media report detailing exactly what reasoning was used to spur an official to contact UH even prior to the Washington game, pressuring Frazier to cough up the tickets. I mean, c’mon — UH hadn’t even finished their season yet! What gives?

Mainlanders who don't want some outsider to spoil their party. I think they already made up their minds who should win in the Sugar Bowl.

I'm curious. How many tickets have been sent to UGA's athletic departments for their fans' cheering section, not counting teams' and coaches' tickets?
