  • Anyone using Mac OSX?

I'm probably the first Mac user here, but if not and you are a Mac user, tell us.

I'm on Mac OSX using the Safari web browser. So far so good. Everything I tried works.
    I'm still here. Are you?

Hi, I'm a Mac user! Nice to see another one, there are so few around. When is everyone else going to wise up and get a Mac? just teasing

Anyway, everything I tried works as well, except the Spoiler button. When I click it, it just makes the post box longer...but nothing shows up as the spoiler. I'm using Internet Explorer though...gotta try Safari.

I found another item that did not work here, but I have to tell the administrator about it.

That said, it is good to have another Mac person here.

        Two questions:
        1. Which spoiler post didn't work (was it mines or the admin or both)?
        2. What version of Internet Explorer are you using?

Both didn't work for me using Internet Explorer, but when I tried later on Safari, they both worked.

          I'm using IE 5.2.2.

          Thanks

Would it be possible to upgrade to Internet Explorer V6? While I am using a PC running Windows 98 I am running Internet Explorer V6.

I don't know if IE for Mac is up to 6? I think it's only at 5. My computer is supposed to check every Friday to see if there are any updates for the OSX and IE is one of the things it checks, so I think I should have the latest version...Macpro, do you know?

              Thanks.

                Re: Anyone using Mac OSX?

I'm running OSX.3 and IE 5.2.3 and have the same spoiler problem.

Odd. I didn't even know Safari was a web-browser. It has popped up, unintentionally prompted by me, I guess, and I haven't known what to do with it.

                  Re: Anyone using Mac OSX?

Odd that it's IE that's having problems. In my work, it's Safari that we're usually struggling with (and not that there's anything wrong with the application, it's just that most of the world is tweaked to make IE happy).

So the spoiler button clicks and the box opens, but there's nothing to see inside? If you try and select the empty space, does it highlight "invisible" text or nothing at all?

I reported it to the person who came up with it. Sorry for the trouble! Hope we can fix it before we need to really spoiler-tag something!

                    Re: Anyone using Mac OSX?

Strange. The developer says she (I think it's a she) actually created the thing on a Mac -- Internet Explorer 5.2.3 under Mac OS X 10.3.3 -- and that it works fine. I wonder if I did something to break it?

Malia, can you see if you can bump up your IE version? Though Scrivener, if you're using the same config as the developer, I can't imagine why it doesn't work.

That's exactly what happens, and when I tried to select the empty space, it highlights nothing at all.

                        Thanks.

Microsoft announced a few months ago that Internet Explorer will not be updated anymore for any version of Mac OS. This is because Safari is now Apple's default browser on new installs of OSX as well as newly sold Macs.

Right now I am using IE 5.2.3 which seems to be working fine. The little buttons to indicate bold, italic, underline and linked text do not work with Safari and seemingly not with Internet Explorer for the Mac as well. They do work with IE for the PC on Windows 2000 which I have tried. Ryan already knows about this problem. That said the best way to edit tags on the Mac is to just manually add them in like this.... ok with the brackets around the action and slash bracket around the closing action.... kind of like this but with no spaces.... [ b ] test [ / b ] so that it looks like this: test.

                          Re: Anyone using Mac OSX?

As I mentioned to mel, the buttons don't work right reliably on other browsers besides MSIE on PCs, as well, so it's not so much a Mac issue than a browser one. However, there might be ways to make the quirky behavior of the editor window a bit easier to tolerate.

Log in, go to the User Control Panel (User CP), click on "Edit Options," then scroll down to "Miscellaneous Options." There you'll find a setting for "Message Editor Interface." There's "Enhanced," "Standard," and "Basic." Obviously, "Enhanced," when working properly, gives you all the buttons that work like they do in a word processor. If you have problems with it, try "Standard," and finally, "Basic."

                            Re: Anyone using Mac OSX?

                            You know it.. MACS RULE!

G5 and G4 (at work), iMac G3 for da' hale... all running OS X "Panther" v.3.3.
So far, no complaints. Great to be able to convert everything right within the OS to PDF's (if the need arises.).

I also use a PC at work with MS XP. What can I say? It's an OS X imposter! lol

I agree, Safari is a DAMNED GOOD browser. That's likely why MS stopped updating I.E. for the Mac. I like Safari's tabbed site markers, the "clean'ness" of how it displays html and it also displays "favicons", that cool icon site designers place next to the URL address to give their site a customized look for bookmarks. We implement those for our business site. I.E. only has this feature on PC's, and only if you bookmark the site. Safari ALWAYS displays it.

Speaking of Mac browsers, check out the latest OS X version from Netscape.. pretty darned good! Much better (read: FASTER) than the OS9 versions. Displays Favicons, and bookmark tabs too!

                            Anyways, more Mac' chatting later.
