  • Bush2's press conference

Little wonder his advisors must tell him not to have these things very often. Mercifully, I only heard excerpts from his rare, recent one. Even the excerpts made me cringe. Whatever he says screams "insincere!".

    Re: Bush2's press conference

All I know is it messed up the American Idol schedule, and even local geeks with agile TiVo recorders (who shall not be named) found the change was too last-minute to fix and ended up with a chunk of That 70s Show.

Honestly, Bush's live performances are the perfect example of the power of perspective. I can't see how anyone can watch him stumble and reach and not judge his abilities as a leader and diplomat harshly. It makes me physically uncomfortable, and as important as major press conferences are (and this only was Bush's third or so?), part of me wanted him to go back to being a puppet immediately, just reading the polished words someone else put together for him.

Yet I've heard true believers convinced the press conference was a great performance, that it will boost his approval ratings. I can't fathom that. Maybe the majority of us who are phobic of public speaking just feel sorry for the guy?

The worst part for me, beyond the pauses during which you could here the hamster wheel squeaking, was the blatant dodging of the hard questions. One example involved the 9/11 commission. Paraphrasing:

Reporter: Why do you need VP Cheney with you when you appear before the 9/11 commission?
Bush: Can't answer that, I need to take a question from a Fox News reporter now.

    Ick. Transcript here.

      Re: Bush2's press conference

I didn't care in the least that it disturbed the American Idol schedule since I've never seen that show. And I was mercifully spared the full press conference, only heard excerpts on NPR.

Bush2 only has to speak one sentence to make me cringe. He just screams insincerity. His advisors are wise to encourage him to strictly limit the number of these things he does, should tell him NOT to do another before November.

Blame it on incipient Altzheimer's. I just don't remember posting two such similar responses.
