I travel by myself all the time. Take a good book or magazine. You're so friendly that you won't have any problems talking story with the people who sit next to you (probably going be somebody who you know anyway because you know EVERYBODY ). I dunno what time your flight leaves, but get to the airport at least 2 hours early. Once you get on the plane, you can rent a headset and listen to music or watch the movie (usually it's a junk movie, though), unless you want to spend $15 for a "Digiplayer" (I dunno if any carrier besides Hawaiian rents those right now, though) which has more than one movie and plenty of TV shows to watch. If the plane takes off from HNL really early in the morning, then once you get in the plane, get one pillow and blanket and try take a nap so when you get to Vegas you're ready to hit the casino. Which airline you flying? Aloha? Hawaiian?

If you fly Hawaiian, they have headrests that you can adjust on the back of your seat to keep your head from sliding around. Hopefully you either got a window or aisle seat (I hate being stuck in the middle of a row). Don't drink alcohol because even one drink going knock you on your okole.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes...you remember how long the walk is from the gate to the baggage claim, yeah?

On your way home, if you get extra quarters or those dollar tokens from the casinos, use them in the slots they have at the airport.

Other than that, have a WONDERFUL time!

P.S. Oh yeah, if you gotta take a cab from the airport to the hotel, and especially if you're staying on the Strip, going be kinda expensive (at least to me). They have one hotel shuttle that only costs about a half of what a cab would cost (I think a cab ride from the airport going be about $15+ tip because get so much traffic and not because the airport is that far from town). Go to the airport information desk and ask about the shuttle to town. And then if you go to the Strip, don't take a cab. There's a monorail system that runs between the MGM Grand and Stratosphere on the Strip that's cheap and takes less time than fighting traffic. You can walk the Strip too, but it's about a mile between the Strip and downtown (you either take a bus, a cab or can walk).

Here's some more information about the hotel you're staying at and shuttle service (yes, they will take you to the Gold Coast if you tell them to)

        All forms of transportation
        Airport shuttle companies
Gold Coast Hotel (it's considered "off the Strip" but they do have a free shuttle between that hotel and a sister hotel on the Strip). And since it's right next to Rio Suites, you GOTTA go next door to the Rio and check out the place! Absolutely fabulous World Buffet (considered one of the best in Las Vegas) and they have high wire acts above the casino.

Hey Auntie, if you decide to take a taxi... don't let the driver take "the tunnel" to get to the strip. It's a rip-off... lets the driver pad the meter because it's a longer trip.

Update: 5:40 p.m. I called Gold Coast Hotel. No Shuttle to Hotel. There is a Private Shuttle Service that takes visitors to the Hotel. I was told to go to Door 11 and I will see the various Shuttles.heheheh Cost ~ $6.00

            I can afford dat.

Yup, das what I told you. You don't want to take a taxi in Las Vegas because of the traffic and because the meter on that taxi is always running, even if you're stuck at a stoplight. We used the Showtime shuttle to get to the Monte Carlo.

Anden if you like get to the Strip, just hop on the free shuttle between the Gold Coast and the Barbary Coast Hotel. And then, if you have time, go next door from the Gold Coast to the Rio Suites and at least look around (but if you can, go hit the World Buffet).

Re: Suggestions On How To Travel!

                  Auntie...

A few things to help your airport visit less painful for you and others.

Someone mentioned shoes...wear easily removeable because you WILL have to remove them.

try not to wear anything with metal on it, or have anything metal in your pockets....if you do, dump it ALL in the containers...there's nothing more annoying to other people than someone who keeps having to go thru the metal detector.

Bring snacks or a meal...Airline food ain't what it used to be...as in...FREE. Now they offer you a "snack box", which is basically a crappy sandwich with some crappier snacks, for like $5...blech! You da queen o' kaukau...bring some yummies wit you.

EARPLUGS...Murphy's Law dictates that when you forget your earplugs, there WILL BE a screeching infant in the seat behind, next to, or in front of you. I know you love da keiki's but, in case you're not in the mood, earplugs come in handy

Luggage...if you can't travel light, check your bag, and try not to bring gargantuan carry on stuff, because the flights are always full, and you will hold up the line getting on the plane trying to squeeze 10 lbs of luggage into 5 lbs of overhead compartment, and everyone behind you will have to wait...
Also, make your bags stand out in some way, with colored tape, stickers, or just using plain ol' ugly/unique baggage...just makes things easier for you when you're waiting for your bags at the baggage carousel.

Comfortable clothes and shoes are key, but someone already told you that.
The seats are small, and not very comfortable.

Don't lose all your money in Vegas...it's an evil place
BTW...there is an "International Marketplace" in Vegas, modeled after the one in Waikiki...may be amusing for ya.

Oh, and if you decide to visit L.A., please PM me...We have a Chinatown here too ya' know...;-)

                      Ok Mom!

Here I go... as you know... my son was conceived in Vegas!
What happens in Vegas doesn't necessarily stay in Vegas... Especially when your a blogger

                      Travel advice:

                      1. Watch out for men w/ box cutters.... you see em on the plane... give them whacks!
                      2. Be patient!
                      3. Don't be afraid to ask questions

                      While in Vegas...

                      1. take whatever money you have prior to the first day...and divide that by the amount of days you will be there....(That way no matter what you will still have money each day... no matter how much you gamble)
                      2. Free drinks is free drinks...(Don't pay for them... even if you not gonna drink alcohol... all other drinks are free too while you gamble)
                      3. When in Vegas... leave your watch at home!.... Honestly... you don't want to know what time it is...and DON'T ask.
                      4. While there.... forget about HT and the computers ....etc....just have fun.
                      5. When playing mega-bucks.... say the name manoa 3 times before pulling the lever.
                      6. Share your winnings with me when you get back
                      7. Have fun and be safe.
                      8. Make sure you give us all the details when you get back.
                      9. We will miss you here on HT.
                      10. EVERYONE ON HT PRAY FOR AUNTIE TO HIT THE MEGABUCKS!

Have fun 1stwahine.... Make sure you don't come home Hapai like my wife
