You're missing one important person from this list -- Jeff Au Hoy. Old timers have even regarded him as one of the best we've heard in a long time. He plays 2340923842347 other instruments as well.

Re: What would be your dream Hawaiian concert?

If I'm REALLY dreaming? The lineup would have to include:

                    > Hui `Ohana (with Dennis Pavao)
                    > Kalapana (with Mackie Feary)
                    > Country Comfort (with Billy Kaui)
                    > Israel Kamakawiwo`ole
                    > Gabby Pahinui

...because I didn't grow up with their music, and never had the opportunity to see them perform live.

I actually didn't forget him. I had him on my list and took him off. There's only so much steel I can take. I figured two were enough. We'll let Jeff pay his dues a little more before he gets on the list. I've known Jeff personally since he was in high school so there was no chance of forgetting him.

Others that could have been on my list but didn't match the sound I was looking for:

Uncle Mike Kaawa, "the Rev" Dennis Kamakahi, Led Kaapana, Jerry Santos, Jake, Ernie Cruz, "Mr. K" Kahauanu Lake, Mahi Beamer, Nina Kealiiwahamana, Uncle Bill Kaiwa, Auntie Genoa, Kekuhi Kanahele, Kaumakaiwa "Lopaka" Kanaka`ole, Raiatea Helm, Gabby, etc...

He's one of my gf's kumu hulas. We see him every Wednesday night. Except tonight cause I'm to lazy to walk over there and see them practice.

                              Sweet lineup!

This past August, I. Mihana Souza was again touring with Bill Tapia and came to the celebration in Kalama, so when our band was playing a set in the park, I invited her to join us when we performed "Pua Mana." For the audience, she explained the song's connection to her family home, translated the lyrics and sang it with us, while we had a couple dancers from our halau. Lots of unanticipated happy tears formed that morning, along with a park full of chicken-skin. One of the sweetest memories of my very short (so far) involvement with Hawaiian music.
