  • Christmas Music

I've been listening between several web stations:

woxy.lala.com/holiday.php for some classic and modern artist rendtitions of Christmas music.

The Mountain Apple Records stream has been switching between Christmas and their regular set.

I like Sky.fm for the traditional Christmas music.

somafm.com has chillin out music and another station that plays some of the more outrageous holiday tunes.

For those that want to try out some of the new releases before buying I'd recommend:
    http://music.aol.com/songs/new_relea.../holiday_music
Sarah McLachlan, Bette Midler, Hall and Oates, Chris Botti ... etc.

I'm enjoying and thought I'd share.

Thanks for the links. Speaking of Christmas/Holiday music, I'm compiling a list of the MOST offbeat holiday music. I'll start off with:
    • I Bought You a Plastic Star for your Aluminum Tree by Michael Franks
    • Blue Xmas by Miles Davis

Please add you favorite, terribly non-traditional selections!

      Re: Christmas Music

Well, I'd better be careful what I suggest, as we've had an ongoing list of "Christmas In Hell" song suggestions here at work for several years...

If you can find the version of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" by Bahamian singer Joseph Spence, give it a listen - not only does he not know most of the words, he growls his way through the whole tune in a way that would scare the intestinal contents out of any child - particularly when he gets to the title line, which comes out like he's singing of "Sandy Craw..."

Gayla Peevey's wonderfully child-like "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" ain't exactly a traditional standard, though it has been making a bit of a comeback in recent years.

ANYTHING that has been "performed" by Wing; she has at least one Christmas album.

"Elf's Lament" by Barenaked Ladies with Michael Buble.

Whenever I get burned out on mainstream Christmas music, I put on Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Christmas rock opera, Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It clears my palate.
