  • Hibiscus In a house

I live in Alaska and I have a hibiscus which never sees the outdoors. I have been tempted to put it outside in the summer for the day. I have had it for about 4 years but it has only flowered twice. but it is pretty big for an indoor plant ( in a pot about 1 1/2' in diameter) any advice to get more flowers?

I have a couple of hibiscus. I leave them outside during the summer; when it starts getting cold, I bring them in. I usually have some great blooms on it. They love the heat, but even 70's during the day will be fine for them.

      Okay,

I get one plant and someone told me a long time ago what fo do.

First....When the temperature is 76 degrees fo leave them outside. If it gets below 60 degree's bring them in. I leave them out during the spring here in California when the temp is above 76 but I put them in the shade, I figure the sun will burn it if in direct sunlight. My hibiscus is blooming right now. I got the red , pink, and the Kokia of the big island. I don't know the weathe rof Alaska but maybe it'll work for you if the temperature is right.

          Waimanalo Blues
by Thor Wold & Liko Martin

Wind's gonna blow so I'm gonna go
          Down on the road again
Starting where the mountains Ieft me
          I'm up where I began

Where I will go the wind only knows
          Good times around the bend
Get in my car, goin' too far
          Never comin' back again

Tired and worn I woke up this mornin'
          Found that I was confused
Spun right around and found I had lost
The things that I couldn't lose

          CHORUS:
The beaches they sell to build their hotels
My fathers and I once knew
Birds all along sunlight at dawn
          Singing Waimanalo blues

          Aloha,
          Mokihana

Even after almost fifteen years here, I am still amazed to see plants growing like weeds which I spent lots of money and hours of care trying to grow inside in London.

Is it true what they say....In London it rains over 200 days a year? How cold does it get during the winter month's and what is the temp during the summer month's?????

                        Just like Manoa.

It drops below freezing in the winter but snow is rare. And it can get VERY warm in the summer, even moreso than here in the islands (and air-conditioning isn't widely available).

The climate is definitely not a reason to live in London, as it is for Honolulu, and growing "exotic" houseplants there isn't an easy hobby. London is truly a great city, though.
