  • Former President Gerald Ford dead at 93.

Former first lady Betty Ford just broke the news to the AP, and the news is slowly breaking across the country. NBC just pre-empted programming to report the story.

The audio during the first half of NBC's breaking news was non-existant. I wonder if that was on a national or local level.

Unfortunately, celebrity deaths tend to come in 3s. Hmmm...

It was text scrolled on KGMB during the airing of NCIS.

Watching President Ford's state funeral on CNN right now.

My heart sank a little when they showed Mrs. Ford and his family. State funerals always give me chicken skin.

I always liked when Chevy Chase did him on SNL.

Really really sad. Pres. Bush 43 was a no-show for Pres. Ford's funeral (his excuse: "he was cutting cedar and riding his mountain bike at his ranch in TX") and many Congressional leaders were no-shows. Just because he happened to be a President (and Vice President) who was never elected to his positions doesn't mean he didn't deserve to be honored for his service to his country anyway.

I wonder if the reason why Pres. Bush didn't attend the funeral was because of the postmortem disclosure by Bob Woodward that Pres. Ford didn't agree with Bush's Iraq foreign policy? If it was, it just shows the kind of vindictiveness that has plagued this White House Administration since day 1.

Looks like Bush is paying respects in person, just not last week. I'm no Bush fan but I don't think one can really fault him on this one. A majority of politicians flaked on the funeral too. Definitely the holiday schedule had to do with it.

Son Jack and daughter Susan were both on hand to greet and thank the constant stream of mourners personally. His funeral will be carried live on KITV tomorrow.
Presiding clergy will include the pastor of the former president's California church, the Rev. Robert Certain, who will deliver the homily. Eulogizing Ford will be President George W. Bush, former President Bush, Henry Kissinger and Tom Brokaw. Deniece Graves will sing the Lord's Prayer.

Yeah, from both parties. Darn that Ford; he shoulda timed it better.

Actually, Cheney sounded very sincere at the service. He worked for Ford, if I recall.

Where is President Carter, I haven't heard one soundbyte or appearence from him. I hope he shows for the actual burial Wednesday in Michigan.

Does anyone know the actual Hawaii times of the funerals in Washington and Grand Rapids as I'd like to roll tape.

I think I have every Presidential funeral from Truman to present on tape except for Hoover's.

NBC's coverage of the Washington funeral is from 5am-7am tomorrow morning.

I thought it was touching how the Michigan football team wore stickers that read 48/BO on their helmets to remember the late president/UM alum and legendary Coach Bo.

I heard that he (along with Clinton and both Bushes - all the living presidents) was at the Washington service this morning.

It was also nice to see Mrs. Reagan again. We haven't seen much of her lately.
