  • What generic brands/products are you messin with?

I can't lie, I like the taste of Western Family strawberry, orange, and grape sodas more than I do Slice, Sunkist, or Welch's. Generic ibuprofen, aspirin, and cough drops are kinda cool too. I never messed with those generic cereals before tho.

What's some generic ish you use on the reg, HT?

Re: What generic brands/products are you messin with?

I have on occasion subjected my children -- er, been a cost-conscious Mom and purchased FOR the children -- those large bags of faux Cocoa Krispies and Cocoa Puffs ... but since they're by well-known-cereal-maker Malt-O-Meal, would that be considered generic?

Costco's Kirkland tall kitchen trash bags with drawstrings. The big-a** boxes last forever and who needs "designer" trash bags?

Costco's Kirkland liquid laundry soap, sometimes. The gi-normous, heavy one, with the spigot and the unscrewable "vent." It's fine.

I'm not a fan of generic, store-brand recloseable zip-top bags, after many a tale of woe. Gotta be Ziploc or other name brand (whichever is on sale or for which I have a coupon).

Once, when assigned the task of bringing sodas for all the kids to a party at a friend's house -- I took "generics." Times were really hard and much soda was needed, so I got store-brand sodas and filled the cooler with a variety. EVERY TIME that cooler got opened by a soda-seeking kid (not my own), I heard a complaint or some type of grumbling and saw the resulting search for "real soda" deeper in the cooler. (It wasn't there.)

"Ungrateful brats," I thought. I'm sure my own kids were embarrassed, but didn't say anything to me about it. I brought soda for many more such parties, but never took generics again.

But... how can it vent if the vent is unscrewable?
I know. The sentence just looked funy at first glance.
Kinda like inflammable... unflammable... nonflammable. English is a funny language. Generically speaking.

Generic pastas are OK, and so are canned/dried garbanzos, black (turtle) beans, kidney beans, chili beans and pinto beans, and canned tomatoes. Generic cooking oils (canola, corn, vegetable, peanut) are OK, but I'm more fussy about my olive oil.

Things bought loose and sold by the pound/ounce like oatmeal, gourmet salt, peanut butter (fresh ground), honey are all fine, as are loose spices (much cheaper to buy by the ounce than in bottles or tins, and since you buy less, it'll stay fresher). Generic unbleached all purpose flour is OK.

If Kirkland is considered generic, then Kirkland anything is good by me! Since I have almost no sense of taste or smell I'm fine with all generic edibles. I won't sub Dawn dishwashing detergent, tho'. I use it for both dishes and laundry!!! Come to think of it, I could live a totally generic life if I had to. Oh wait...I think I already do! It's time I get a real life!
