  • Name that Slogan!

We enjoy playing name games here, so here's a new one called Name That Slogan!

In this modern era of commercialism, we're bombarded with advertising. Often the main punch line is the company, corporation or politician's slogan. Usually it's a short phrase or motto which suggests their purpose, goal, objective or belief.

"Think Outside the Bun" and "Have It Your Way" tell us exactly what Taco Bell and Burger King are all about.

With this game, the rule is to give a slogan (only one per post), and the next person has to identify the company/corporation, politician or whatever it is that slogan belongs to.

Example: My first post is "Think Outside the Bun". Then you'll answers: TACO BELL

Then you'll post a new slogan for the next person to identify, such as "Have It Your Way". And so on. Simple as that.

Since this is a Hawaii-based discussion board, local businesses or political campaigns would be ideal, but national chains (or politicians) are fine too.

If you're out of state (or the US), Please don't post a slogan from someplace like "Feeding the Fat Man for over 100 Years" which might belong to BETTY-BOB'S BBQ SHACK out in Memphis, Tennessee. lol Us Hawaii folks would never get it.

Obscure Hawaii places are cool. Such as a local dentist or law firm. The harder it is to "Google" the better! We want those who know their stuff!

If it's too obscure, provide a hint such as, Hint: Located in Hawaii Kai. Or, Hint: It's a Korean Restaurant.

Discussions and commentary on the slogan at hand are welcome. "Have it your Way"? Not even! I never get my burger MY WAY there! lol

Lastly, the slogan can be past or present, as companies often change their slogans with new ad campaigns. But keep it reasonably identifiable.

With that, I'll start the first (and very easy) slogan for you to answer!

    Slogan:

    "The Bank That Says, Yes!"

    Who does that belong to?

Easy. That would be First Hawaiian Bank.

    How about:

    "I like the package."

I had to google that one, Glen. That would be Rinso. But that's not their slogan is it? I think it was just a punch line in their TV commercial. One of their slogans was actually "Rinso White, Rinso Bright".

SLOGAN please, not commercial catch phrases. It should be something they include on their print advertising, packaging, stationery or website masthead next to their logo.

      OK next..

      "Food, Family & Friends."

      HINT: Local retail chain

        More hints:

        >The late founder of the company built a large estate up on the hill in Pupukea on the North Shore of Oahu.
        >This company is a regular advertiser in MIDWEEK.
        >They recently started operating a gourmet coffee shop lateral business.

You win only half the unprize, Keanu! You forgot to offer up a new slogan.'S'ok...I'll do it for you and an easy one to boot...

              Bank of Hawaii!

Since Keanu only gets half the prize, how's about we give him half of a Maikai card? lol

              Next..

This is a fairly new slogan for them:

              "at Home In the Islands"

Hint: This locally-founded company also has a well-known Jingle that starts with "When it comes to savings it's about..."

Also, they have a similar business profile to Foodland.

              Easy!

              ???

P.S. Glen, sorry if I sounded cocky in that reply. My bad. Actually, catch phrases from advertising campaigns on radio and tv (like your Rinso suggestion) sometimes act as a slogan of sorts, so that's cool too. Which I think is the case with Tutusue's "That's My Bank!" suggestion. It rings like a slogan, even though their actual slogan is "Hawaii's Bank". So yeah, catch phrases should qualify as a slogan of sorts. At least here.

I didn't finish the slogan after I guessed correctly because I got called away to finish bathing my son.

Okay here's one for the old timers on the board... "Chance um!"

                      McDonald's!

Their TV advertising campaigns have been lame for the longest time now. They need to hire back Ronald McDonald!

You know what would be a great ad campaign for them? Air the Japanese McDonald's tv commercials here in America, either subtitled or voiced-over! Oh man, I'd fall off my chair laughing!

                      "MakuDunarudo.. BeeguMaku.. Fee-day-o-feesh-u.. Jee-kan-Maku-Nuh'getto".

Keanu, hint please on the "Chance Um" one. That sounds so familiar, yet I have no clue!

                      Here's another one...

                      "Serving Epic Burgers Since 1972"

Hint: From Playa Del Rey to Hawaii Kai

Funny, but the McDonalds over in japan are of FAR better quality than the ones here in the US. The food always looks like the picture...fluffy, and moist...and tastes alot better too...AND you get polite service with bows from the order takers.

Here's my favorite slogan, from a retail store, now gone but fondly remembered:

"If you don't know what you're looking for, you'll find it at _________________ ."

I DID ask for a HINT on "Chance Um!". I'm still stuck on it.

I'm thinkin' it's from an old, local used car dealership commercial. Something like...

"Eh brah, you just come on down to Uncle Mel'z. We stay, we stay. We not he-ah, we not he-ah! Ok? OK!... CHANCE UM! at Uncle Mel'z Used Kahhz! No worry brah.... CHANCE UM!". (Rap style)

                              Hint please!
