  • Japanese Americans fighting in IWO Jima

I was amazed how Japanese Amerericans not just 442nd go to Europe, but other units who are Japanese fighted in IWO Jima on the US side. I saw this, but I am a bit skeptical. Is this true? Otherwise, it would be mentioned on Ken Watanabe's Letters of Iwo Jima.

This would bring some emotions of fighting against one's own mother country. The type of emotions. Are there any actual veterans here who really did do this here? How did you feel? Please explain in detail.

It's true. The role of Japanese-American MIS soldiers in the Pacific War was a well-kept secret until (I think) the 1980s, when the records started to be declassified. They served as translators and interrogators for captured Japanese soldiers.
