  • Hawaii Final Cut Pro Users Group

If I ever could get past Chapter 1 in "iMovie for Dummies" I'd be so interested in learning FCP. But, alas, I'm still one Untechie Tutu! For those of you interested in or currently using FCP here's a chance to learn from the best in the business. I work with both Steve and Ryan so can vouch for their credibility and knowledge.

    APRIL MEETING AGENDA
    A. Presentation by Steve Szabo:
    "Highlights of NAB 2007"
The annual National Association of Broadcasters Convention & Show is the world's largest electronic media show with over 1,400 exhibitors and over 100,000 attendees from all over the world. NAB 2007 promises to be a particularly significant event, with major announcements expected from many companies including Apple and Sony. The annual International meeting of Final Cut Pro Users Groups will also take place there and will be attended by Steve and Mel. Steve Szabo will be working the Apple booth this year and will scour the show for all things new in digital film and video. He will present a summary of what's new and coming to our group.

    B. Presentation by Ryan Kawamoto:
"Panasonic HVX200 DVCPROHD camera and P2 Workflows in Final Cut Pro"
The Panasonic HVX200 camera records true HD files onto flash cards, instead of tape. Ryan Kawamoto was one of the first to acquire this camera and has directed numerous independent films and commercials using its HD media. This innovative technology allows rapid access to HD media, without the need forcapturing from tape. From its inception, access to DVCPROHD P2 media has been integrated into Final Cut Pro and there is a dedicated interface within Final Cut Pro for accessing the Panasonic P2 media. There are a variety of specific technical steps to successfully work with the media, depending on the format of the final deliverable. For example, certain projects may benefit from working at DV resolution for offline editing and then working with the native HD files for online. Ryan will present an in depth look at workflows involving Panasonic DVCPROHD media and the P2 card. Ryan Kawamoto is an accomplished, award-winning Director of independent films and commercial projects. He is based in Honolulu and has directed films showcased at the Hawaii International Film Festival and elsewhere and has successfully completed numerous long-form projects and televison commercials using the HVX200 and DVCPROHD media. We are very fortunate to have him present to our group.
