  • Something got lost in translation...

And it's things like this that cause wars...remember when Kennedy went to Berlin and called its citizens "doughnuts"?

Now we have Chinese made sofas whose color is described as "N---brown" due to the pecularities of translating Chinee to Engrish.

Reading that article, I think the "victim" is overreacting. Probably trying to milk it at this point.

"Moore is consulting with a lawyer and wants compensation."

Sounds like somebody had a Chinese-to-Spanish dictionary, and then a Spanish-to-English dictionary...

We've all purchased products with packaging and/or instructions that's been grossly mistranslated into "Engrish". Browse through your local 99 cent store, and chances are you'll find one of these products.

        Example:
Outdoor Padio Table - Assemble Instructions Steps
        1. Holding leg 1 up, twisting screwdriver, push screw into hole A.
        2. Hole B is for Leg 2 to push screw in.

You get the picture. Make that, good thing there is a (illustrated) picture, otherwise I'd never put that dang thing together! Even then, sometimes the pictures can be messed up.

So what if that Sofa's color was named "Cracker White"?

So interesting to get a glimpse of what we're all about here on HT. So, Pomai, how long have you been directing pornos?

Good one, Lavagal! Conversely, some of the names of Japanese products cause eyebrows to crinkle in this country, too. (I think the Japanese would be better off giving their products Japanese names rather than trying to make the names sound like Engrish).

Pokky? Calpis? Pocari Sweat? Milky ("tastes like Mama")? Marble soda (ramune)?
