  • Help for the Mainland Plumaria

Aloha from Michigan, my wife and I have been to your beautiful state twice and are getting ready for another trip. We visited the (tourist) islands of Oahu and the big island both times and returned with plumeria plants. We
have been unable to get them to bloom in 7 years, they are healthy and produce a lot of green but no flowers. Am I doing something wrong? Remember Michigan is very cold at times and we bring them inside for the winter.

    Hope to see you soon.....

from what I gathered from the folks at wikipedia say that PLUMERIAS
are Tropical Plants and prefer a tropic setting.
Unless a fellow HT-er knows the "411" on Plumerias the plants you have will not bloom like you have mentioned unless the weather gets suddenly sunny there.

Thank You, I was hoping against that but I can't blame the plant for not blooming in this cold climate...Mahalo...

My folks live in Illinois and their Plumeria blooms for them. You're keeping it indoors I'm assuming? Theirs was an indoor during the winter and outdoor in the summer. They keep theirs in a sunny spot. I live in PA and so far have had bad luck with mine. Something always happens before the plant gets established. Actually... come to think of it... both times I've tried, my cats were the culprits of the sadness.

Intresting to hear that it does not have to be a Tropical Setting for them to bloom. Guess ya gotta trick the plant.

            These sites might help:

Just be careful to have a soil mix that drains well and not to over water, lots of woody plants, especially tropicals hate wet feet.
