If you ask a lot of stores &/or fast food places, I'm sure they would be glad to help you out & give you their boxes before they go into the trash bins.
I.E. Longs, McDonalds, or who ever. Any store &/or fast food places that are near by to you, or you can always call in advance to have them save it for you so that you can pick it later.
That's what I use to do, when I moved out, I called my old job (When I worked there before) to save me some boxes, providing that I picked up myself.
You actually have a lot of options to go & pick up boxes other than through the internet aswell.
On the occassions when I have had to pack out after the earthquake, or pack to move, I saved the boxes after I unpacked, and sold them for practically what I had paid for them.
You'd be surprised!
Rememebr to put soft things like linens and towels and clothing in huge plastic trash bags, double if needed. After the move you can reuse them for trash. It cuts down on cardboard, and takes up less room in the car.
How big is big? I can generally get my hands on a few copy paper boxes. Those are my favorite for short-term storage, but I don't know how they'd hold up for a move.
When we last moved, we used a heap of large Rubbermaid bins. We still have dozens of 'em around as makeshift furniture and storage!
