  • Happy Birthday U.S.A.

I was surprised to not find a thread dedicated to celebrating Independence Day so I thought I'd add a place to say "Happy Birthday!" to our country. There are many things I'm grateful for, but one of the biggies is that I was born in the U.S.A. After many years wandering the globe, there is no place I'd rather call home. It's number 231 this year and despite challenges and setbacks, the heart of America and her people is true.

A very happy Independence Day to all H.T. folks!

      God Bless The U.S.A.
      by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I'd worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

      I'd thank my lucky stars,
      to be livin here today.
Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can't take that away.

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

      And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
      God bless the USA.

Yep!! I'm Proud to be an AMERICAN!!! I never was in the Military but I did my duty. I gave birth to three Soldiers!

Aloha howdy, Auntie!! I dig that song so much, thanks for posting its lyrics. It's one of the songs that moves my very soul.

As a country we are far from perfect, but per the planet...there is none better.

Like you, I never wore the uniform but married a man that did till retirement, and have a daughter that married one, and I support them all. Thanks to them, I can come to places like this and speak, agree to disagree with anyone in my country, etc.

Happy one and huggz to all.

            Happy (belated) Fourth of July!

I spent most of the day yesterday watching a series about the American Revolution on the History Channel. It was very interesting, and what really hit home was that it was not easy, nor was it cheap in any sense. God Bless America!

nothing is perfect. but i'm proud to be a part of this. when i say 'this' i mean 'america'.

yesterday in the elevator at the sheraton we said 'happy independence day!' to the other people in the elevator and the lady actually replied 'ya, this year we're embarrassed to be american'

              we were like ".................."

then my friend was like "um, no political small talk in the elevator please" then we got out. it was funny but sad.

i'm still proud. it's not perfect [what is? besides ice cream] but it's ours and i helped and damn it.... be proud please, tourist in the elevator.

That's a wise statement to make, no matter where on the spectrum you fall; thanks for that one, christa, I gotta remember it.

America: my country, right or wrong.

But think about the entire quote that those words come from:

"My country; and my country is the great American Republic. My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right."
-- Sentator Carl Schurz, Feb 29, 1872, remarks in the Senate
